Any idea what the part number is from the 2018 model and if it can be retrofitted/coded into 2017 models?

You guys need to try to use the new voice commands b/c you're living in the early 2000s if you're trying to touch your screen and drive, etc. I just tell it where I want to go and 95%+of the time it gets it right and it starts navigating right away. Or in the case of searching for a song, I just ask it to play the name of the song and it is pretty accurate as well. Even if you fumble the title a bit, it still narrows it down pretty well.

That's true but it would've been much easier to type on a touch screen to enter addresses. I can't stand typing or writing on that iDrive controller, I just lookup addresses on my phone's BMW Connected Drive app and send it to the vehicle.
Voice recognition is amazing

Late July build but no touch screen

Recently picked up my m4 in Welt (ED) on 8/11
However my car didnt come with touch screen
I thought all idrive system was going to be touch screen for those car built after July 3rd

Mine was week 29build ( 3rd week of July)

Is this something that can be coded by the dealership later?

Can someone clarify this? Thank you very much in advance

Per http://www.bmwusanews.com/newsreleas...=&searchresult it appears that only the M3 may be getting iDrive 6.0 with touchscreen.

Checked with the dealer here in Dubai

1) For touch screen to work, you need iDrive 6

2) The price for the touch screen here in Dubai is 1500 USD, screw that!

My 2018 M4 has a build completion date of 8/1 and is not touch screen. To be honest not only would the fingerprints annoy the hell out of me but it would be uncomfortable to use.

I would hate seeing fingerprints on it. I would never use it and not allow anyone else to. I would assume from the responses even though it has touch capability you can still control it with the wheel?

You guys should just be taking advantage of the new voice command. I use it almost exclusively for navigation and telephone dialing.

I’m really looking forward to the touchscreen. I found it handy at the dealership because I’m a retard with the controller. Having said that the voice is definitely better in the 6.0 vs 4.0.

The 4.0 drove me nuts!!

No touchscreen here; July 12 build date.

But who needs it anyway with the voice recognition FINALLY getting to the level it is at in iD6. I am, however, surprised that BMW still doesn't allow voice commands to control the climate settings. My 2008 Acura used to do that; e.g. "A/C on, temperature 71 degrees".

Is it just me or is Siri still Siriusly basic? It's my first car with Apple Carplay and more often than not it fails to gets the location I want or the music I wish to play. It also couldn't recognize a voice-to-text iMessage reply of "How much do I owe you?" It wrote "how much do I OU" and pronounced OU as ooohu so had to go into the interface to see what the heck it transcribed.

What's also horrible is that it defaults to Apple Maps which is not as good as Google's so I still use my phone for navi.

I have no idea whether the Carplay voice recognition is the same software running the BMW VR.

Curious to learn what VR commands you guys use most often in the latest iDrive iteration. Maybe that'll help me get up to speed quicker. Thanks.

I saw carplay in your comment and figured I'd chime in. I have barely 1k miles on my M4 and have already given up and turned off carplay. It's a huge pain in the ass and causes for frustration than it's worth. I wish I tried it out before building my car and adding it in. Good thing it was only $300.

The infotainment system Was a major factor in my decision of the bmw vs the c63s. It wasn’t the only one of course but it was a major one.

I still didn’t order car play. Here’s why.

1. Apple car play sucks
2. When using it only allows maps, not google maps
3. When you have maps open amd want to use the phone it’s a nightmare. It swaps to the phone but then doesn’t swap back. As a professional who uses their phone a lot while driving and navigating this makes the car play ecosystem unworkable
4. Why would you when the BMW system can read your outlook calendars, load in your destinations, tell you when it’s time to leave including traffic, and allow you great voice control while using both the phone and maps simultaneously while showing you in the hud.

Car play has a loooooong way to go.

i'd actually really like it if gave us the choice to use g maps. apple maps is just not as accurate. i do like being able to manipulate the phone functions while driving such as mute. but then it ultra fails when you can't manipulate the keypad for automated systems like calling a bank or making a res at a restaurant. smh

again, if anyone has any functions that you like would love to know. thx.

Carplay sucks bc iOS sucks and now the iPhone sucks too. Everyone has left Apple in the dust once again. They were once bleeding edge but now they're bringing up the rear.

Full disclosure, I have Carplay and use both Android and iPhone due to work.

no, car play just sucks. this isn't about fanboy one way or the other. the fact that carplay sucks has nothing to do with iOS. I'm very happy with my iphone.

Carplay just sucks.
