M Performance Exhaust Tips

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any issues with the exhaust tips (whether the titanium or carbon option) working loose on the M Performance Exhaust?

The other day, I found my carbon tips to have come loose with one even coming off in my hand (?!) whilst attempting to straighten it up.

The tips look to be held in place by a small grub screw. My BMW dealership tells me that it’s likely they were not screwed in properly the first time and the noise and vibration of the exhaust slowly worked them loose. They have since tightened them using threadlock and even offered to go so far as to spot-weld the tips into place – but it turns out that couldn’t be done because of the positioning of the carbon covers and the fact that they didn’t want to risk damaging the exhaust. Understandable, I suppose.

Problem is I’m now worried they are going to work loose again and find myself checking them all too often. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? To me, the use of a grub screw isn't particularly secure - especially given the price of the tips!

Many thanks

H

Garage List
It's a common issue from what I've read. That and rattling of the tips / exhaust.

I lost one of my cf tips a month after purchase. Replaced under warranty. The warranty covers fitting errors as well as the parts themselves. So you are good for two years. After that it's £250 a tip if they disappear down the road.

Cheers John

As far as I led to believe if you loose a tip on your dealer fitted MPE ,
It will be replaced under warranty and dealer will Rivet new tip so it will not come loose again !!!!

They will probs rivet all tips so no more warranty claims with MPE tips

So I went to wash the car today, and there it is...
A plain boring old exhaust pipe... minus one CF MPE tip......

I guess it worked it's way off, aftat a 5 mile back tracking drive I gave up..

I'm sure some wee boy racer just doubled his civics value....

Has anyone recently lost and had replaced under warranty as a bad fit???

I'll be calling my SA in the morning..

I had a single CF tip replaced under warranty late last year. There was a suggestion that the tip could have been stolen and therefore not covered, but the fact is that BMW can't prove that it was stolen as much as I can't prove it wasn't. The former, however, counts for more than the latter so it was replaced.

It's worth pointing out that when the tip was replaced, all four were then put in place using thread lock. That seems to have worked as it's been a more than a few months now and the tips are solidly in place. That said, I still find myself checking them every other day!

My m performance exhaust tips on my 2018 M3 are rattling like crazy during cold start. Dealer in DEVON P.A. / SLOANE BMW said the rattle is coming from the carbon fiber on the tips and that they can do nothing about it.
Thats BS for a vehicle with 4000 miles on it that was special ordered from BMW with the exhaust/tips pre installed.
I will be taking my car to my other BMW dealer in Mt Laurel NJ which is a MUCH better dealer and see what they say......The rattling noise at cold start is absolutely unbearable....Sounds like someone threw a roll of quarters in a Blender......
