50% weight saving over AGM?
Yeah but the lithium battery is only 69Ah If i'm not mistaken most E92 M3's came with an 80Ah or 9Ah battery, which is much higher capacity. |

I was considering picking up the Royal PowerBurst JS7500 Jump Starter:
27,750mWh jump starter provides up to 400-amp peak power output to start your vehicle in all kinds of weather http://www.bjs.com/js7500-jump-starter.product.285156 I cannot tell if this would work in the F80. Any advice on whether this would be safe and work? Thanks! Brian |

Jump starting at the battery is not recommended by BMW, see attached docs. |

Deltran Battery Tender has two chargers that will work on the F80/83 Lithium battery. The smaller one is 800mAh (PN: 022-0199-DL-WH) while the larger one is a full 4A (PN: 022-0209-DL-WH). You can select the battery type so in my opinion this is a superior charger to the CTEK (56-926) charger.

i just had my car boosted with a fully charged booster pack, car started fine, but the battery light is on now and saying "replace battery"
brought it to the dealer and said $2090(Canadian) for a new battery. lack of charge over winter storage was the reason, and not covered under warranty. so i highly recommend buying a lithium ion battery charger(14v) and not one that plugs into the cigarette lighter(as per manual) funny because when i called the dealer in the summer, i asked about storage and i was told, for a few months i wouldn't worry about it, i should of got that in writing! |

Wonder if you don't track your car just switch to regular AGM batt ($200), reprogram the computer by indy shop ($150). I've been reading LiFePO4 need constant-current to go to 80% then constant-voltage charger. So for winter storage if you start with good batt (assuming around 80% capacity to begin with), any cheap charger as long it's not over 14V should be just fine. |

I was talking to the service manager and he said the shop foreman said the problem may go away. And when he scanned it, the charging system was working and the battery seems to be good. But I noticed on my gauge cluster that the little bars for efficient driving are lighting up anymore. Which doesn't bother me. So maybe soon an alternative battery will be available.

Ok so I haven't used the car since January and didn't get a chance to hook it up to a charger either.
Should I hook it up first to a charger and let it run overnight before trying to start the car? |

AFAIK you will not hurt the car - worst is that it will not turn over, then you hook up a charger.

Wondering if there's less of a chance in getting low battery sign and then having to replace it like member "whattheheck" experienced if I charge it overnight first.

"Some Lithium-ion batteries have an on-board UVP (under voltage protection) that disconnects the battery to avoid it becoming too deeply discharged. This prohibits the CTEK charger from detecting that there’s a battery connected. To bypass this, the battery charger needs to open the UVP.
