Just bumping this thread to say I had my break in service today and diff fluid was changed with same part number.

BMW did my break-in at 700 miles

I took my car in today at 1240 miles for Break in service and they said a prior dealership had completed it at 700 miles when I took the car in for an alignment fix.

Here is the printout from the dealership. They told me everything was done, but I don't trust these guys.

What do you guys think?

urojet2 IF you don't trust that shop.... then pay for a 2nd servicing. Or better yet do it yourself.

I don't see where any oil was billed out on that service order/report.

If it was me, I would pay for trans fluid at the dealer. I had a 12 x5 5.0 and since I paid cash, I had 1200 mile service done. Then had it done at 4x,000 all at the dealer.

By 55k miles, it was drinking a qt of oil every 500-700 miles. There was 3 other complaints showing 1qt every 1k, then 1qt every 800 BMW was not going to do valve guide seals under warranty due to "owner abuse" and being just out of warranty. That was until they noticed it had like 9 oil changes(2 were due to BMW SIB stuff) and 2 complete drive line changes in the profile. BMW decided quickly caved and did the seal job. Saved me like 13k. The tech said he had to double check the mileage cause the inside looked as clean as a new engine.

Lesson, it I didn't pay dealer for these extra services I would be out much more

Oil changes are way cheaper than new engines! I have also changed my oil way too often... but it's worth it to my peace of mind.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you in the end.

The 1,200mile service is a DIY job honestly if you guys dont trust the dealers..

It is a simple engine oil change, oil filter, and screw/washer.
Also an simple dump and fill, diff fluid service with new screws.

ISTA to reset the service running in check, which takes about 2 minutes and you are done!

Don't they void warranty if break in service not done. Will dealers just take your word for it that you did it yourself?

This is a myth. The M service and warranty book has a few pages on warranty and a few sections on maintenance and effect on warranty.. It a 5 min read.
No where does it state warranty is voided if maintenance work is not done at a dealer.
Do the maintenance on time, use oem parts, reset CBS service in dash, record it in your maintenance booklet and you are done.

Hey guys, I just had my 1200 "break in" or Running in Service done. I was a bit early at 1150 miles or so.

My problem is, after the service was done, I can't enable launch control. So before you guys tell me that I'm doing it wrong, this is my second F8x, and I know how to initiate launch control on these cars. Did the dealership mess up or does the car need to actually reach the 1200 miles or more to enable LC? Now I am second guessing the entire service since LC isn't enabled. The vehicle status cleared the break in service notification and moved up my service which is oil change due in 9000 miles. Has anyone else experienced having the 1200 mile service done and NOT being able to do launch control, if so what happened?

I think your car needs to be driven more than 1,200 miles for LC can work. But that's only IF the tech enabled LC when doing the service.

How many miles are on your car now? Why not ask the dealership whats up?

Hows does this not happen? Are there people running around without LC enabled who have done the break-in service?

Here is how the dealer and how you are suppose to " deactivate the running in check" or to "reset running in check"

This enables launch control, and resets the CBS service reminders correctly.

You can now fully do the break in service at home, in your garage and be satisfied that the software was properly reset, but also, the oil changes were properly warm before the draining, and the fluids were properly filled.

Also useful for some guys who want to double check and make sure it was done properly by the dealer.

Hey there, how many miles do you have on the car? I went in slightly before the 1200 mile service reset, and I too thought they didn't do it properly.

However, after reaching 1200+ miles LC magically appeared. So if you did it earlier than 1200 miles just wait to turn over that limit because it seems like it's hardcoded into the car to check to see if the milage has been met before doing LC. Good luck!

The selling dealer apparently did it at 37 miles while it was still on the lot.

I just hit about 1240 miles.

Why would they do it at 37 miles? That sounds strange.

Mine didn't unlock at exactly 1200 miles. Give it some time, surely if it doesn't allow you to go into LC at 1300 I would take it back.

I just checked the RO and it stated everything was changed, but it looks like it was coded as a standard service, not a running in check...so I'm slightly concerned they didn't reset the check via ista.

The car was on the lot for over 4 months, thinking that it tells them to do it automatically if the 1200 isn't hit within a certain time period.
