Just got my baby back.

However, bodyshop can't seem to get the paint texture right. Now on the rear bumper seems like it has texture versus smooth on the fender. We did check that the front bumper also has smooth paint on it.

Anybody know how to fix this?

It doesn't sound like your bodyshop is BMW certified.

If it's just textured to the touch they can probably wet sand or polish it. Is it a wavy feel or granular?

Understand what they will do. You don't want it repainted.

And don't forget to start talking DV.

The one thing my Ins Co told me was if its not fixed right don't take it. Once you do you lose leverage. And my car was at one of their direct repair shops.

State dependent you are entitled to DV and there are some good companies that will write an assessment for you for a few bucks.

The one thing I learned from my last wreck is that having pics of the car prior to the accident is important to show the car was in good condition, assuming it is.

PM me if you want a name.
Carfax and auto check are just for amateurs and consumers.

Anyone buying at auction or trade in on semi high value car would have a paint meter, and actually see if there is or is not an accident. A repainted bumper is no big deal unless the repaint was so terrible that it looked repaired, which unfortunately sounds like this repair did.

And, plastic bumper repair, replacement are often below the threshold of DMV repair reporting requirement.

Bottom line, don't trust anything but paint meter. IF the metal has been painted, walk away, or ask for a huge discount. This is why the OP needs to pursue Diminished Value if available in his state. Otherwise it's like somebody legally robbed him, that equity in the car is gone.

They need to strip and repaint. Sanding a bad job down is mickey mouse business.

The amateur painter had too slow of a hand and too heavy on the trigger.

I used to see this all the time from all the so called "painter" who really should stick with painting matchbox toy cars.

This sounds accurate. They blamed it on air pressure, etc. I heard on a different thread that machines paint The M3/M4 in Germany. So I guess there is going to be some difference between a human and a robot.

Is it possible to order a pre-painted bumper from Germany?

Not any more, because BMW apparently ships pre painted bumpers in these flimsy boxes with no padding, and a lot of them that people used to order form Tischer would get damaged during transit, so they put a stop to it.

See if ecstuning will do it.

Damages include:

Rear bumper
Trunk latch - assuming based on the fact it won't shut unless slammed.
Sensors sticking out
Broken heart

Be prepared for a super long wait time. I dropped my car off for a repair (undercarriage damage, new steering wheel mount, radiator and control arm) and I dropped it off January 5th, still don't have my car back. 5 weeks just to get those parts in from BMW Germany.

Latest update.

Rear bumper painted for the 3rd time, this time much better. But the rear diffuser looks like it wasn't installed properly and it looks sideways.

Making matters worse, I have a fresh curb rash that I just discovered after my recent stent at the body shop. Aaaargh!!!

Accidents are tough, sorry dude. As for me, mines a daily driver. If it gets whacked, you just have to deal with it and move on. Just sayin.

Make sure you inquire about diminished value

Speaking of which I did get. Lousy $795.00 for approximately $4k in damages.

I'm disputing the % they used. Anyone from Ca familiar with the calculations?

I'm from CA. That's a bad deal. You should get more.

Same here, buts it one thing if I "whack" it and entirely another if someone else does.

Make sure to ask if there is frame damage using NAAA standards (at 35mph it's more than likely). If there is ask for depreciated value on the car as a result as well as damages to be repaired.

An accident reported on the car is one thing. Frame is another. Ppl can feel repainted panels. They want to why it was painted and if there is frame that's hugely diminished value
