Update April 14th, 2018...... Got my car back to the track Thursday and I think it’s pretty clear it is the Dinan tune causing the issue. Second lap in and on the straight away, it got up to about 100mph and it lingered at 7Krpm plus without shifting. By the time I made the decision to manually shift it, it misfired and went into limp mode. That was with wide open throttle and plenty of room to run on a straightaway. I pulled off and restarted the car and the codes cleared, then removed the tune and went back to stock. The next session I ran it in manual and pushed it as hard as I could to try to replicate the misfire. No issues. The next session, I ran it in auto without the tune and pushed it as hard as I could and again there were no misfires. It also shifted fine in auto without the tune.
It’s clear the tune is causing it not to shift. This is the third time at the track since the tune and the third time it has happened. I’m going to contact Dinan again, but I’ll just say this here and now, there will be zero resolution from them. They’ll say they’ve never heard of it happening to anyone else, etc., etc. |

After my prior post, I had a few intermittent CELs on the street. I took the car back to my Dinan dealer and they replaced the Dinantronics wiring harness and updated the firmware under warranty. I have not had any other issues since then including 8 track days.
I have always had great support from my Dinan dealer (Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley) working directly with Dinan and hope you are able to resolve your problem through your Dinan shop.

This thread makes me very reluctant to go Dinan Stage 3 on my daily driven F80 M3.
Can anyone else chime in who has this tune who doesn't track their car? Is this just a software issue or? |

the stage 3 heat exchanger wore a hole in my AC condenser and it cost 3k to fix/replace. dealer that fixed it (and installed it) says the dinan mounts for the heat exchanger put it too close to the condenser. waiting to hear if/how i get reimbursed.

I've had the stage 2 tune on my 2015 for almost 2.5 years. I have had no issues. Have done several track days. It is not the most powerful tune but I do feel the power, is definitely noticeable in 2-5k range. I'm sorry for the OP but I think his experience is not the norm for everyone. I don't see why Dinan or the dealer would not step up and replace parts to fix the problem.

That sounds like a design flaw. Can other stage 3 users speak to this?

Had a similar issue on an m2 that we installed a stage 4 kit on. Ended up after many hours of diagnosis and swapping components to be the tune. They sent a new box and so far all seems well!

Luckily for most people I’m a little too honest when it comes to selling things. I have no intention on selling the car for many, many, many years and when I do, it will likely be worthless....lol

Hi guys!
I'm glad I came across this thread because its starting to clear things up for me a bit. I recently got my 2016 M4 DCT with 11K miles Dinan Stage 3 tune and with less than an hour of driving the car is going to the shop for diagnostics for the 2nd time. My specific problem is when I'm around 4-6K around 65-70mph. The car pops up a drivetrain malfunction error and goes into limp mode. First time around it blew off the charge pipe, and the car made some gear grinding noise for a split second mid way through 4th gear. Took it in to the dealer and at that time it seemed like the drivetrain malfunction error was gone. I'm planning to bring it back into service this up coming week. if they can get it to work I would keep the Dinan tune, but if for what ever reason my car is allergic to this piggyback. I may just keep the hardware and go with a ECU flash tune |

I went straight from stock to Dinan Stage 3. Zero track time. Install was done by my local dealer, an authorized Dinan seller. |

Don’t hit me with a tomatoe but like others have said just get a proper flash tune (assuming nothing is actually wrong the car in stock form); while I know it’s not cost effective because of your current Mods, the long term satisfaction I think is worth it. I have driven both stock ZCP and flashed on the track.

Dinan lost it when Steve sold and left the company in 2015.

Funny they (Dinan) haven't chimed in yet. I'd ditch it and go BPM. Reliable as hell and friggin' awesome.
