My spare key fobs are hidden!

That said, I wish BMW would provide an update to our cars that allowed the drive to "Code" the OBC (,...3 letters from the past) with a 4 or 5 digit code. Any long time BMW owner here should recall the "4-Digit Start Lock-Out Code" from BMW cars from the 80s!

I'd really like to have this back....
E24, E28 and E30 I believe all had this.

Wow, this is close to home seeing that you are in Denver. Glad to hear your dog was uninjured and that the car was recovered. So much for the 6MT being a theft deterrent as we like to joke about. This has me thinking about where to leave my vehicle keys at home and possibly setting up some video cameras.

Sorry to hear about this OP, glad you got a firearm recovered. Thanks for sharing, reality is your crappy situation is a friendly reminder to others.

Exact same setup, two ring pros for front and back. Entire home is basically covered. The ability to share the videos too is awesome, we had some shady dudes selling shady stuff a while back... shared the video on NextDoor and sent it to local PD.

I'm on a neighborhood app and some people in my area were caught by citizens providing video to the cops.

Two people posted videos of the same guy knocking on different doors and asking for a different name at each location.

(One used his Ring app to respond remotely )

The police asked for video and caught the creep by assembling all the videos to get info on what he was driving etc.

As a side note, I was able to meet the CSI investigators at the impound lot and watch as they very went through the car and gather fingerprints/DNA. Kind of a neat process to witness if you have never seen it before.

Thanks everyone!
Grt news car recovered with very minimal damage, would it show up in carfax?

The bad guys would be lucky the owner wasn't home or it was someone elses home. They would get dropped and they would be paying a visit to the M.E.

You should care. Talk to the DA on the case and say you want to press criminal mischief- repairing the car devalues it and you want 6k for damages or more. You will 100% get some of your claim and all you have to show is the damages claim. Insurance will cover everything and you should get a certified check from the court for 6k or whatever you settle for. It's happened to me and I made out with a few grand only by telling the DA I want going to press further charges.., they said they could only offer me 3500 of my asking 6... I agreed bc insurance handled it all.

If you lease, you don't own it, so you can't.

Your lease holder might want to though...

This is very state law dependent. In many states you can recover damages from actions like this even if it is a lease.

Thanks for that - didn't know. Was just told by my attorney in Texas when I was hit that I couldn't.

It's a trap for foreigners like myself - making the assumption that the rules are the same all over the country. They are at home. Not here. Hell - the rules can change from city to city, or even county to county... and I keep forgetting.

Not at all, just looks like a dog happily resting on a cool surface. Glad he's ok and no one was hurt.

I have a particular way I have to pull into my garage in order for my wife to have enough room getting out of hers. If someone stole the M4 and reversed straight out they would rip the side mirror right off and most likely scrape the side of the car.

I'll ask, but I believe this assumes they catch the guy, and he makes restitution to the court at some point...right?

He probably barked once, and then followed them around the house smiling as they took what they wanted.

You know that your mirrors will fold in, right? I fold my mirrors in before pulling into the garage.

Glad you got it back with such minimal damage.

If that happened to mine I'd likely hope it was totaled because I'd be so worried about what those jerks did to it.

Sure,..but the harder you make something,...the better the deterrence is! What if the owner could also make the Setting timeout even longer in the event the battery is disconnected,...say,..30 minutes,..an hour, etc? Not many thieves would be willing to sit around 30 minutes to an hour waiting for an ignition Lock-Out code to reset!

Heck,...the owner should be able to define the ignition lock-out code reset time (...in the event the battery is disconnected) to what ever they desire,...even up to a day or two, etc! Even to the number of Attempts before Lights Flash,..Horn sounds,....doors Double Lock, etc! BMW has the tech do allow for this now!

Peace of mind is priceless! IMHO...
