The paint is chipping off of the M badge on the back of my car

M logo on the trunk is chipping. I just noticed the red line has some of it chipped of. I can go to a dealer to get it replaced the car is less than 2 years old but my concern is that the dealer may not replace it in the same spot so the whole thing may start looking worse. But then again the logo with chipped paint is not looking great either...

Question - had anyone have their dealer replace the m logo on the trunk and how it came out? Is it possible to make this change as clean as factory install?

I changed mine from the chrome to black myself. Mask tape all 4 corners around the M, slice it off with floss clean the area and place the new one on top. That how I did and it looks perfect.

It's a plastic sticker. If someone can't peel the old one off and put the new one in the same spot you probably should re-evaluate who you're taking your car to.

If they even remove it, it's extremely easy to put it exactly where it was. Get masking tape and tape around the logo, remove it, clean it up, and the tape will be there to be a stencil on where to put it.

Not on the logo in back, but there is a chip in the BMW logo of the steering wheel in my car. Paint is still there, not sure if a deformity under the paint or just a layer of paint came off. Sometimes I see it, but mostly don't. I thought about looking into getting a replacement, but since it hasn't caused the car to pull to the right yet, I will leave it be.

I did the same thing. Extremely easy and quick to do. You'd have to be an idiot to mess this up.

I'll tell that to my dealer when I bring the car in to get the new logo installed.

Trade for a ZCP and you'll have new black badges all around

Unlike seats, logo is not wear and tear item. On my e90 I had the logo on the steering wheel replaced b/c it was peeling. Dealer did it no problem. Same goes for most of interior trim. It seats are usually not replaceable unless you are really good at persuasion

I would think any exterior part is more wear and tear than an interior part. If paint becomes discolored from the sun within a year will you get a new paintjob?

Only reason badge may be covered is because its cheap. Pennies.

You might; Hondas have had recalls for their paint discoloring and fading (even after more than a year!) in the sun. At least one of the recalls provided a new paint job.

If there is a quality issue with paint it will be covered by warranty. For example if it melts or something under the sun, it will be covered. It's quality issue and not a wear.

Yes if paint got discolored in less than a year I'm pretty sure they'd fix it - but this is a rediculous premise , that would never happen

Just remove it and tape on a new one. All you need is hair dryer, dental floss and WD40( to clean residual). The dealer probably doesn't give a fuckk about a little manufacture default on a rear emblem. Good luck!

Well the challenge as I see it is to place the new emblem in exactly the same location as the factory. I k ow I can place it anywhere I want, but I want it exactly where it is now, and that's what is bothering me. I k ow this is the first world problem for sure....

You put tape around the old one before you take it off. Then put the new one inside the tape. Exact same location.
