My Avus Blue doesn't seem to be cleared. There's a definite line a couple inches below the edge of the hood where the clear seems to stop.

That's why they call it "Individual". Every individual painter at the factory does it slightly differently. Ha. On the plus side, just think of the weight you saved by NOT having that extra clear coat. Probably at least 1 pound, which could translate into a .00025 second improvement in lap times at the racetrack that you will never take your car to. Ok, now I'm just being sarcastic, but I've seen similar posts about weight savings that made me laugh, so I had to do it.

ZCP M4 w/ Tanzanite Blue. Of course there's no clear, like /u/Venere said, these are race cars and weight savings are top of the order.

...but since your car was one of the two that inspired me to order Avus Blue I'll have to get over it! thanks for the inspiration Maybe Regensburg doesn't do it but Munich does (or did)?

San Marino is a difficult colour to paint. Regensburg and Munich cannot paint those on the regular line so have a 2nd hand painting line. Other individual colours are easier to paint and can be done on the regular line. Regensburg and Munich cannot add the hand painted bodies back into the paint line for clear coat. Dingolfing on the other hand can take cars off the regular line temporarily for hand painting and then place them back on the line for clear. So M5 or M6 in San Marino dont have clear under the hood. The robot applied powder clear system cannot do under the hood. In the factories where wet clear is applied by hand they also do it under the hood.
