Reliability of F8x platform
I'm starting to look into buying a MY2015 or MY2016 M3 or M4 and wanted to get people's opinion on the reliability outlook of these cars with the DCT transmission. I've done a search on these forums to see what issues people have had so far, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern any common major failures although I know most people haven't really reach high mileage with this car yet. I saw a few threads on issues with the DCT transmission, but I'm not sure if this is going to play out to be a common problem.
I'm coming from a 07 335i which I've owned since 2010 and is now up to 135k miles. With the exception of usual parts failing that have been easily fixable myself (OFHG, waterpump, thermostat, cooling hoses, etc), i haven't had any big issues with the car. It still drives perfect, but I think its just time for something new. Initially I was going to take my wife's 2013 Audi S5, which I have already installed a tune and intake, but now I'm a worried about owning it past the warranty which expires at the end of this year. People on the audizine forums have occasionally also reported failures with the DSG transmission (Audi's DCT) with some reporting success with a $600 fix. Anyways, I just want to see what people's experiences are. I wouldn't want to trade one car with transmission issues for another. I have also been itching to get an M car for a while now. I'm comfortable doing a lot of DIY but once it starts requiring pneumatic tools, lifts, engine, or transmission work, then its probably going to a shop. I'm also considering leasing a new car as well. Last edited by Everling; 03-10-2018 at 11:32 AM.. |
