No they wouldn't use any trim at all (even CF) since it is purely cosmetic and adds weight!

Carbon Fiber has been completely overplayed in the auto world in terms of interior pieces that are purely for show.

Dude, it's there so that the trimmings don't have to fit perfectly. Give some slack to the workers, I personally would do extra bad job for one of these.

Note that there is a third choice; carbon fiber. That's the default option but once you choose aluminum or wood you can't go back to carbon fiber. Looks to me like a bug in the configurator. The carbon fiber looks best IMO

Is piano black still available (for a decent price) through individual?

I went to check, the Audi has wood in it, and now I have yet an other reason to hate it.

Disclaimer is the usual: I own a Jack Russell.
I respectfully disagree.

I think that wood trim can look excellent, even in a "sportier" car. It all depends on the interior and exterior choices.

For the F80 M3, my first choice would be the carbon fiber interior trim (sporty and relatively unique). My second would be a darker wood grain trim. Unfortunately, some types of aluminum trim (particularly the non-textured or merely "brushed" varieties) both look and feel cheap. In addition, it warmer climates, the aluminum trim can get scorching hot after leaving the car parked in the sun for a few hours.

Disclaimer: I have an Australian terrier.

XE7/4DM will be available. Price unknown at this point.

"Individual Leather upholstery options will be available for order (as a tick-the-box factory upgrade option) and show up in order guides beginning Spring 2015. Meanwhile, from Autumn 2014 until Spring 2015, Individual interiors will be available for order upon special request (but won't appear in order guides) on the M3 sedan and M4 convertible only. M4 coupe's factory (Munich) must first be prepared for the Individual upholstery process, which is expected to be ready sometime Spring 2015." -- M3/M4 Product & Project Managers @ NAIS

....I have a turtle I've had for 24+ years....what does THAT mean?

I have gone for/away from trims that I've seen scuff up easily. I want a trim that is impervious to normal usage. Some of BMW's aluminum trim looks like crap if your button down dress shirt cuff buttons scratch against it. And I've seen CF trim, which I believe is clearcoated, get so swirled which also drives me nut.

I want impervious trim.

I saw a picture of the trim covered in black Alcantara with an ///M logo on it (///M performance option or something). Looked pretty good IMHO. You could replace the standard trim with that if you don't like any of the three offered.

Cheers.

It means that you didn't get screwed in the pet store! Now go and find yourself a cardealer that will make the same thing happen again.

Tastes vary, a friend of mine always gets wood trim over cf/metal.

But yeah, I am getting CF for sure.

Yes, it looks the best IMO especially w/ the CF roof. I have never been a wood guy for cars, aluminum can look ok but CF looks better in this case IMO.

It's a better option than CF, which is so 2000. Too much 'visible' CF is tacky to me. I'm not a boy racer. I'd much rather have a Carbon Leather option.
