Migrating from CTS-V? Anyone?

Hello all,

First and foremost, I did some searching but came back with nothing. I am wondering if any of you have ventured to the F80 platform from a Gen 2 CTS-V. If so, what were your impressions...the good, the bad, and the ugly?

I currently daily a '13 V sedan and after nearly 3 years of ownership, multiple track days, and 40k miles I am simply looking for a change. I've liked the F80s since they debuted and am strongly considering one as my next vehicle.

I've had the pleasure of driving F80 M3s at Lime Rock during an M Track Day and while they felt great, I am more so interested with how they perform day-to-day compared to the V and am curious if anyone has made the similar jump. Any insight is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I fit your bill. I had the G2 V with MT. Had it two years and had a couple cars in between, but three years ago bought my M4 with DCT. Having had the M for three years ought to tell you something. It's the best DD sports car I've ever had. Much more capable and fun in the twisties too. What makes it that? It's just as happy going for groceries as it is driving it with my ass on fire. Entry/exit wonderful, my C7 that I owned for 15 mos. wasn't even close in that department. Never expected the V to be a mileage king and it wasn't. But the M on the freeway, cruise set at 74, is always between 29 and 31. Granted, mileage was the last reason I bought the M, but it surely was a nice surprise. Bottom line, no comparison for me. A lot of ownership satisfaction is very subjective, but after three years and 26,000 trouble free miles, it's the M4 hands down. Any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Other than the V8 soundtrack IMO the M is an upgrade in every way. Lots of tuning potential as well, IMO can't go wrong.

Far more aftermarket power upgrades for the V2. I love the V2 and miss mine. Loved firing up my Caddy with L/Ts, mid pipe, H/C, pulley, CAI and Tune. Sounded amazing and was super fast. I think; however, the M3/4 is the better car.

Yep it's hard to beat the sound of a V8 with breathing mods

I made the switch from my 14 CTS-V lightly modded to a 2015 F80. I was hesitant to move from monster V8 to V6 at first. The above post is right. It is way more fun and capable in DD form. The useable low RPM torque makes it so much fun. The looks are not matched as far as I'm concerned when it comes to a 4 door fast family truckster. I made the with 1.5 years ago. No reservations at all.

F80 is an in-line 6 (i6) not a V6. I am sure it was just a typo, but just in case.
