CBC is TRASH! Need recommendations
So I had a CBC installed for 2yrs then all of a sudden 2 bolts sheared off in the crank hub. Is it worth my time trying to pull enough parts out to get a drill and Extractor in there to try to remove the bolts? They have red locktite. Or should I just take this as the car telling me to upgrade to a 4pin hub for 2k? Anyone else successfully extract them without removing the hub??
I WILL NEVER INSTALL A CBC AGAIN! |

We’ll damn that’s ugly. The broken bolts look flush to the hub, which will make them a bit harder to extract. The locktite won’t be doing you any favors in this case either.
What seems odd to me is the witness marks (missing anodizing) near the bolt heads. It almost looks like the plate has been moving under the bolts. Are the remaining bolts snug? And what caused the 2 to shear off? Could’ve been low quality bolts or maybe they were over torqued…? You might get lucky and extract the bolts, but honestly I’d be prepared to install a new hub. An OEM replacement would be easy. A pinned hub would give piece of mind but at an added cost and additional labor. How much power you putting down? |

I said a long time ago that cbc is useless, in your case it has created even more problems, I wouldn't waste time trying to remove the broken bolts, mount a solid unit with 2 pins.

Good excuse to do a full hub fix, plus a better CBC.
This is the SECOND time I’ve seen a VTT CBC with bolt problems (evidenced by the galling on all 8 bolt spots). I lean towards their aluminum plate needing to be harder material.

Dang, I have a CBC only on my car and I'm a little worried now. Do you mind sharing more details? I'd like to know how many miles you put on the car in the last 2 years after installing this. Also whether your car is DCT or 6MT? Power levels and tune? Thanks in advance.

Aren’t you the same guy on FB complaining about this? I swore your post said you just bought it and the bolts fell out from the under carriage and you were asking where they were from?
Shit happens so not sure why you’re so upset about this? Get it fixed and keep it moving…or don’t. |

Funny enough I had an issue with my belts ripping and making noises and upon inspection today I found that my CBC bolts also broke off like yours only much worse... I currently have 2 out of the 8 bolts left attached on my car. I took a video and you can see how my crank pulley is spinning out of control. I put my hand inside and I found 3 bolts loose enough to take out pulling with two finger's... Trash ass bolts https://youtube.com/shorts/opQxGFUVMNk?feature=share

2nd - maybe it's me...or the blurriness in the image. I see what I believe are the washers under the bolts...why does it appear this CBC is sliding underneath creating the silver marks where the black paint is removed? Is it possible that this may have saved you from spinning your hub and the aftermath is 2 sheered bolts?

Indeed -- for those who posted with issues, did you install yourself? What I'm getting at is whether you can confirm that the CBC was properly installed with all the bolts torqued to spec. If you had a shop install it, and let's say they didn't get everything to line up on the first try, instead of rotating it could they have said "F it" and just installed maybe 7 of the 8 bolts figuring it be would be OK (or maybe they tried rotating a couple times but still couldn't get it to line up)... but then over time that caused an imbalance, leading to this kind of failure... just thinking out loud.
