I know i'll get bashed for this (puts his helmet on), but where the hell are cup holders? E90 M3 had dinky ones in the dash near glove compartment, where are they on F80 M3?

I had an F30 as a loaner a few times. Cup holders are in a better spot than most BMWs.

The F30 has a "cover" which can be put over the drink holders to make it a tray. You can see the tray behind the shifter. You can see the silver handle which allow you to remove it. The f30 actually has a holder in the glove box for this.

Not the best picture of them, but you can make them out in front of the shifter:

Heh heh. Well it looked reasonable on my iPad, but now that I am seeing it on a PC at work, yeah, it's an obnoxiously large picture isn't it?

Yup same here .

For safety reasons, cup holders can only be ordered with the driver assistance package (blind spot detection, lane departure warning, park assistant, etc...)

But seriously, the cup holders are great when you want to bring a bottle of water with you which I do most of the time. For example, I bring two to work every day. Rarely drink from them in the car in the morning, though I commonly do after workouts or on hot days with the top down. Right now I just toss them on the front seat because I hate using the E9x cup holders (can't even reach the far one easily). And of course they fly off if I need to get on the brakes. And when there are passengers they just get thrown wherever. So the new cup holders in the F8x will be a welcome addition for me.

I was just kidding (albeit with a little truth hidden in there )

I also bring a bottle of water on long trips. Staying hydarted is a key element for keeping the mind sharp and focused, which is big part of safe driving.

I know. I definitely agree with your general message. Just wanted to throw out some other cases for it. And after enduring the E9x solution for the past five years, I genuinely am looking forward to having some normal center-console cup holders in the car.

I had an E92, and yes the cupholders are junk. The F30 I have now is indeed much better. But, there is room for improvement. Skinny bottles of water are not held tightly. I bet the F8x cars get revised cupholders for MY2016, just like the F10 did for its LCI. They need spring-tensioned prongs to hold smaller drinks in place.

Ok so I learned that drivers assistance package is mandatory to drink water in this car. Helpful thanks!

Interesting. Hopefully that's an easy retrofit if they do get the upgrade.
