Illuminated seat logo in the headrest I think will actually look pretty cool. Just hope there is a shutoff option as rear passengers may get annoyed by light.

ALSO we now have a billboard for drivers behind us to spot an M car. Great can't wait for the increased "come race me" attention from the nissan, ford, and Honda 4bangers..

Why would you illuminate a logo on the seat? It'll be covered by your back whenever it's on. I guess if you're not carrying a passenger, but still. Seems a bit... wasteful?

Also some details on a "smokey burnout" feature? Bit of a lame name, but interestingly beating Ford to the punch with their rumored "burnout" feature. Also an illuminated M logo on backrests.

Gotta say, that is a MUCH better price that I had been hearing rumored.

Quote:

BMW has finally, officially, taken the wraps off the hotly anticipated, straight-six-powered, M4 Coupe and M3 saloon. We've been over the difference in nomenclature, but, to remind you: the M3 is the four-door, the M4 the two-door (and upcoming convertible). Simple.

And, though it's lost a pair of cylinders, this is the powerful M3 in history. Both cars pack a 3.0-litre straight six with a pair of mono-scroll blowers, returning 431bhp with a 7,600rpm redline, and a whopping 406lb ft. The old naturally aspirated V8 made 414bhp and 295lb ft. Even more impressive figures are the boring-but-practical digits: consumption and emissions are down by 25 per cent, giving 32.0mpg and 204g/km. We're promised it'll sound good, too: there's a flap in the exhaust pipe that varies the sound you hear depending on the car's mode.

This power is fed through a standard-fit six-speed manual gearbox with an auto throttle-blipping function, though you can spec the seven-speed double clutch (DCT) transmission featuring something BMW officially calls (and we're really, really not making this up)... the Smokey Burnout function. Yes folks, the new M3 and M4 are hooligans.

Both M3 and M4 are, of course, staunchly rear-wheel-drive, and that extra power moves less weight: both are roughly 80kg lighter than their predecessors, with the M4 weighing in at 1500kg, and the M3 saloon just 23kg heavier. Both will do 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds (4.1s with the DCT ‘box) and run on to a limited 155mph.

There's nothing limited about the sideways, though. BMW itself says the M Dynamic Mode "allows greater wheel slip and therefore easy drifting", which is the sort of technical insight of which we very much approve.

There's also some serious aero going on: air curtains on the front bumper and air breathers in the front arches that massage the air around the front of the car, a smooth underbody, a Gurney flap on the M3's bootlid, and a CSL-style CFRP rear-end on the M4 (oh, and speaking of CFRP, both models get a roof made of the stuff, saving up to 6kg). There are carbon ceramic brakes, too.

Inside, you get standard bucket-style M Sport leather seats that look fantastic, an illuminated ‘M' logo on the backrests, a decent-sized boot and a BMW M lap timer.

Prices for the saloon start at 56,175, while the M4 Coupe starts at 56,653 (and, most will be glad to hear, comes in colours other than gold). Sad to see the naturally aspirated V8 go, or will you take more power, less weight and a twin-turbo straight six?
WOW! This makes me so excited. $56,100 msrp dear god my f30 was $57,000.

I know it'll be bare bones but I'd rather have a plain M car then a fully loaded 335!!! F80 may be my next ride.

Well see what the M235i is all about and if there will be an M2.

Thanks for the post and info.

The logo is on the front of the seats, not the seatbacks.

The A45AMG has ~170hp per litre, why cant BMW do the same thing. or put 3 turbos like they did in M diesel.
HP/liter is such a useless figure when you're talking about F/I cars. If you're really craving more power, wait for the inevitable aftermarket piggyback that'll up the boost to your liking.

You can bet money that there will be a "Competition package" that will probably up power to around 450?

this!
for everyone in North America getting all excited about the price. Realize these are UK pricing and UK mpg figures. The actual base price is closer to 67k USD. so a little bit more expensive than the current base price of an M3 in the States. (the E92 Vert m3 is currently still on sale with a base price of 69k in the US)

You are forgetting to consider the fact that US cars are MUCH cheaper than on any other market. Of course I know 56 pounds is not 56 dollars. That said, It will more than likely be closer to $65 than $57... but 57 would be really really really nice haha

for comparison:

M5 Uk= 73,505 pounds => $120,320
M5 US Price= $92,900

30% Price difference

A 2k difference in price for coupe in GBP = $3275 increase in US price over current 2013 base for coupe which had a $62325 base. So US model should be around $65600 for base which is good news!!

If you drive 10,000 miles/year, that's a savings of 650 gallons or so a year which comes to about $2500/year savings. Which is pretty good. That's basically $200/month more you save (which unfortunately will be an offset to the vehicle price)

Your numbers are off. 25% improvement on 19mpg is about 160 gallon per year difference over 10k miles. You are talking about $650, not $2,500!

It doesn't work that way either. Most times a GBP$2,000 increase doesnt translate into a USD$3275 increase in US. It could also be a USD$2,000 increase in the US. But you are right, we should expect anything from $62k-$65k.

The logo is on the back rest not the head rest. I doubt it would be overly gaudy and bright either
