Course you already look like a real dick just sitting in an M4 vert, soooo...
that settles it then - if you care about statistics like weight, performance and what other people think of you, then dont get a convertible.

if on the other hand, you want to buy a car for yourself, get the convertible if thats what you want

This - I'll be super bummed if they get rid of the hard top.

oh but they will, and the M4 Convertible will also lose the hard top. After owning a few soft top convertibles, I swore to never get one due to how hard it is to keep them clean and they're less safer and wind noise and and and the list never ends.

I had a 2013 brand new Mustang a few years back, after 3 months that soft top looked like it was coming out of a 5 year old car. It became greyish in color and pale although that was partly my mistake because I went for the V6 not knowing that the V6 mustangs come with a Vinyl soft top whereas the V8 comes with a cloth soft top which makes the color not fade as quick.

The only "soft top" I would get then is I guess a 911 as I was told it's actually a hardtop in disguise: the roof is fabric-covered magnesium. Apparently this is because (I was told by Porsche) Porsche convertible buyers like people to know they have a convertible and prefer the two-tone fabric look, but for structure and security a hard top was better so they covered the hard top with fabric.

I had both. 2015 M4 vert and 2018 Coupe. Those extra 500 lbs made a huge difference. Didn’t love the vert but love the Coupe.

What's your opinion about those two?

Update:
Do have f85 x5m as daily
M3 Comp for sure. Have a Nardo Grey currently in production in Germany. Also the car is completely stripped of its max potential with convertible top down.

Great, but what does this have anything to do with the topic on-hand?

He is debating a sedan vs. convertible. I don't think coupe is a consideration.
