Give Your Carbon Ceramic Brake Feedback
Guys - I've read almost every thread on CCBs so far. Rather than read yet another debate as to whether they're worth the money (please argue that elsewhere), I would like to hear some feedback from those that have had them on their cars for some time now. So if you've got them on your car please opine on squeal (when, why, where), incidents of unavoidable road damage to the rotor surface (rocks hitting them, etc.), ass clowns nicking them during tire installs, and any other feedback you might have! Thanks!

1800 miles thus far. Very seldom school bus brake noise approaching a stop for short durations (2-3 secs). Cold bite is superb. Pedal travel is minimal (~1/2"), which is what I like on the street, although it can make for jerky motion for the passenger when hitting the brakes in an emergency or semi-emergency; however I expect the pedal travel to be perfect during track conditions. Haven't had any issues with chipping, damage or other possible cracking (if it happens, I have insurance for that reason).
To learn the car during winter, I get to some near-deserted back roads across farms, very twisty, slow, almost autox-like roads for miles. Pedal travel increases to about 1" during those runs, very frequent braking, not enough speed to cool off. So, I take that as very good performance thus far. Real test will come next month at the track. I wish I can find a negative thing to say about them, and I am for one won't mind listing negatives if there are any. The only two issues for me are (1) my left foot hasn't calibrated enough to properly use these brakes on the street, (2) I am having tough time finding proper track pads; Pagid does not yet make the RSC compound for the F8x fronts unfortunately, but hopefully soon. I hope this helps. |

There is squeal on mine. Don't have them on my CCBs on my Porsche and Ferrari, but it is present on my M3. I don't mind cause I don't hear it in the cabin. They bite very well. Sometimes too well. When my feet accidentally touch (I have the 6MT), the car really wants to stop. Don't regret getting them at all. Love them! Especially the looks. I do wish the squeal will go away though.

I've had mine for for 7 months now in three distinct seasons and the only time mine squeal are when I come out of a touchless car wash, especially in frigid temperatures. You also have to practically stand on them to get them to work on these occasions, but they warm up quick and the squealing stops. They will squeak a little driving into a heated parking garage from the cold. Apart from these rare moments, nary a peep nor a squeak can be heard.
They sand the roads here in my cold neck of the woods. While it is nice that they don't use as much salt as they do elsewhere (because it's too cold), the little rocks get kicked up everywhere and can sandblast your car if you follow someone too close. I'll ask the mechanic to check for damage when I change over to summers, but I haven't noticed any so far. If they damage easy from gravel mine will surely have some - meaning that if mine aren't damaged, this shouldn't be a major concern for others. I'm not worried about asshats as I'm having my dealership store and change my tires over. That way if they break them, they'll have to replace them. They are otherwise a joy to own. They return a different sensation compared to conventional brakes when you step on them, so that you are constantly reminded of your extravagance, and not just when they glimmer in the sun.

Happy with mine...except for reasons stated already. When coming out of a touchless car wash, i had a clear path out to a green light and just didnt stand on them coming out of the wash. Since i really didnt stop until i was approaching a red light ar 35mph - i somewhat paniced when there was almost no bite since it was my first brake application after the touchless wash. I know now to always stand on them a few times once leaving the wash and no issues.
I'm at 4500 miles and squeal between 1500-3k miles - but havent had any squal since. They do LOOK phenomenal - and on a few country back road weekend drives, they have been a joy to use. Can't wait for track sessions in the spring/summer!

Nice color combo there, have you consider lowering it a bit?

I love it. It just bites every damn time. You really have to drive another car to realize the performance of the ccb. But just shocking how it's not that great when driving in heavy rain/ wet. I think it's worth the 8k just by the looks!

ckortane and M4TW is there anything to be aware of when taking your car with CCBs to a touchless car wash? I've never used one before and literally for the first time just saw one with my girlfriend's car (I live under a rock). The standard soapy wash should be ok right?

Right after you get out, start riding them to dry them out so you don't have your life flash before your eyes at that first intersection. Wave at the people laughing at your squeaky brakes. Not that this has anything to do with the CCB's but pick a touchless that lines things up with sensors rather than having to aim a tire between some rim-scuffing rails. It's easy to line it up right but more of a challenge when everything is steamed up with a pre-wash. And as per normal, plan for a rain to happen right away to dirty your car again.

Do you think there's any concern about the system shooting soap or other rainbow colored sudsy chemical stuff onto the discs? Usually I get about 6 hours before a bird dumps on my car after gorging itself on berries

I love them except with the issue that is happening outlined in this thread:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1107233 On the east coast road debris is kind of an issue. However this is a design flaw. My father has had multiple cars with Ceramic Brakes (997 Turbo, 430 Scud, C7 Z06) None of which have had this issue at all! 12k miles on the 997. I have 700 miles and I have scratches like this in the barrel of my wheels. BMW M needs to fix this ASAP. I fully plan on complaining hardcore. |

My dealer in Atlanta said if they are damaged by stones or road damage they are not covered by warranty and they run about 17K. No direct knowledge just what I was told.

Not yet. I will be do so soon. You live in LA you should be fine. I'm going to guess that this will be isolated mostly to the North East or where roads are particularly crappy.
