Rumor - Next F80 M3 / M4 to have a 3.2 I6 with 473hp
Found this on the web today
BMW's North American President has already confirmed the 2014 M3 will feature an inline-six cylinder engine, but new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming powerplant. According to BimmerToday's sources, the model will have a 3.2-liter engine that is heavily influenced by the current 4.0-liter V8. It could be turbocharged and have an output of approximately 450 PS (331 kW / 444 hp). There's also word of a performance package which could boost the engine's output to 480 PS (353 kW / 473 hp) and enable the car to hit a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). I really hope there is no performance package. I think the car should just come with that higher output. Source http://www.worldcarfans.com/11206204...e-six-cylinder |

The next m3 needs to raise the BHP game to 500hp minimum, in order to keep its loyal followers happy including myself.

Funny, I actually feel the opposite. I'd much rather see it lose more weight than gain more power. If it still gets miserable mileage I'll continue to ignore it.

I would rather it lose some weight but it will need to have a sizable power bump if it expects to be competitive. There is no way the car is going to be 3300 or less lbs so I think it should have some good power to stay competitive with the likes of the amg and rs cars.

I would rather have a 444hp/3400 lbs M3 over 500hp/3900 lbs M3.

I think a performance pkg would be cool. Or maybe make a competition package that adds more power. I know we don't want to go the C63 route, but it is cool when you have an option for more power, like how MB does it.

What's the deal? I posted this same story in a thread two days ago and it was apparently removed with no explanation.
Mods: an explanation please? If I did something wrong how am I supposed to know what it was?

Funny, I did notice that. Your post was up for a few hours, disappeared and then this showed up. Neither has explained one thing that a 4.0L V8 has in common with a 3.2L I6 though.

As far as I know the ceiling for the M3/M4 is 450hp. but they leave a window open for future proposals.
One again I confounded by the "numbers" demand. An M3 is not just about the numbers, they are of course a signifcant element. But true M3 customers would rather have a high level of precision than a high level of performance. I recently tried the Audi RS 5 which I was shocked with the lack of precision and communication at a car that Audi justify as a competitor for the M3. Audi play the numbers game to great effect that everything else is secondary. For Audi to state they are a sporting brand with performance cars on equal slant with BMW M is way off base. Interior quality might be high but enthusiasts require more than "Average". in all key areas.

I'm surprised why everyone is not buying that 800hp Supersnake Mustang.. because the only thing people seem to be interested in is how much hp a car produces, nothing else.
No wait, 0-60 is also very important.. |

Well the reason I am not so concerned with telling BMW to get the precision and dynamics right is because I am sure bmw is going to get it right anyway. I figure BMW brings it's usual magic and we just ask for lots of power and huge brakes.
