I think the ones in inventory you can for sure try it. If ordering a 2016 that may not happen.

5gs of 2016 easily
they are not popular as the e90/92s, and the economy is really bad at the moment.
just want to see how much is everyone getting.

Winters 18 or 19's

Just picked up a Silverstone M3 yesterday and loving it! I got the M exhaust package and it sounds awesome! Thinking about winter tires and wondering I should do 18 or 19's due to fact I don't have the adaptive suspension, any experience related to 18 or 19's? Thanks

I ran 18" BBS from tuner works last winter. General rule is get a narrower tire to cut thru snow so 18s are preferred over 19s....

18s as they are significantly cheaper. There is really no advantage of 19 over 18. They exist solely because there are some vehicles that need 19" to clear brake systems.

I was thinking the 18's may provide a little more cushion than the 19's?

The problem with that general rule is that it doesn't account for ice and pavement. GENERALLY a wider tire is better on ice and pavement. So if you live in Canada you need to account for all 3 of these conditions. If they made tires that could change widths with the push of a button....

That is very true and the other concern is a smaller tire 18 would transfer more torque than a 19' wheel but sure if that would make any concern-able difference?

Go with 18" because for the same money, you will get a MUCH better tire, which really is the most important.

I would sooner rock a wider Blizzak, than a narrow no name wal-mart brand winter tire.

Get a good winter tire, and you'll be fine.

Guys, I'm sure 18" is better than 19" in winter. For Alberta winter which category do you guys think is better? Winter performance tire(Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4, BLIZZAK LM-32)? or pure winter tire(Michelin X-ICE xi3, Nokian Hakkapeliitta)?

Personally I have used the Blizzak LM 60 (runflats) on my 335i and they were unbelievable, might have been one of the best winter tires i have ever been on.

On a toyota I previously had, I rocked the Hakkapelittas, and they were awesome too.

As for the others, I have driven on them, friends have had them, and I guess it depends what you want...

I like to drive fast (relatively speaking) and aim for more performance than just "getting through the winter" and will pay for the premium tire.

As such, I wouldnt veer anywhere other than the blizzak or the hakkas.

I was using Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero for my 335(runflats), they were good as well. I have to get rid of them since they're too narrow for F80.

I'm considering Blizzak LM-32 (Can't find LM-60 any more guess they replaced it with LM-32) for F80, but i was worried it won't handle Alberta's winter
that's why i'm willing to sacrifice performance by considering Hakkapeliitta and X-ICE XI3. Thanks for your input, I think LM-32 will do well

BTW, Are you running staggered or square for winter? I want to run a square setup with LM-32 255/40R18. but it requires at least 8.5" wide wheel, it's hard to find.

TR recommend square 245, do you think it's too narrow?

I was running square 225 (E92 335). So no, I dont think 245 is too narrow at all. You will be fine, will be a nice balance actually for the dry roads.

They did have the LM-32 when I was shopping. I wouldnt shop for the tire to be vehicle specific. Get the measurements that you need for overall diameter, then find a wheel that fits your offsets (height and size for 18s, and fit a tire to that).

I am not rocking the M in the winter. Looking to buy an SUV or something.

EDIT: I also wouldnt be aiming for a "flush" or "stanced" winter set up. As much as I hate the sunken look, its better for winter as the tires dont spit all the rocks and dirt and salt all over the sides of your car, keeps it more within the wheel well if its slightly sunken.

Depends. Where in AB are you?

In Calgary we get lots of dry pavement or 'salty and wet' pavement. Few days driving on ice or deep snow.

I use Michelin PA on both my cars because they are better on those dry days when I want to push the car a little bit. And I love them.

On our Benz (AWD) it is a tank even in snow and mountains. But in deep snow on the F80....might be touchy.

If I lived in Edmonton I might chose something else as the colder/snowier/snow that sticks around winters would be an issue. Then I might go for more of a hard core tire as opposed to performance. Nokian or Hakka or something.

Thanks for the tips... I'm no tire expert I don't know how to calculate the overall diameter...I'll go with TR recommended square 245 set up

I'm in Edmonton, and I'm planning rolling F80 this winter.

Yes. we got more snow than you. that's why I'm struggle with hard core winter tires and winter performance tires. 2HIGH~PSI recommend LM-32 I think i will give it a try.

Im in Edmonton.

We don't get the chinooks that you do that clear up the roads as quickly, plus our colder average temperatures wont hurt the tires as much.

Fwang, I think the blizzaks are the best choice IMO.

Let me know how the F80 drives in the snow! Im very very curious.

I will. It should be fun! I started practice last weekendTried slow on the throttle when warming up my tires(it was like 4 in the morning).

I'm running blizzaks on my F80 factory sizes on 19s. They work great and I ran them all last winter. Wet, snow, ice and deep snow. F80 has a lot of torque so not matter what tire you get if you punch it the wheels will spin.
