When to replace pads?
Is it based on feel or pad thickness?
I've had 5 to 6 events on these MX72 pads and the fronts will likely only last a few more events, while the rears should last a season+. When should I replace these fronts? At half of what they are now? These are rears: |

My quick assessment trick: if the pad material is thinner than the backing plate, it's time to start thinking about changing them.

+1. Also, at that time it's very important to have a "backup" set of pads. I normally think about 1-2 events ahead and depending on the track (how hard is it on brakes) will decide if I need to order another set. Once you have backups available you can start running those pads very low to the backing plate if you'd like. My experience has been that the last 50% of the pad goes much quicker than the first half due to the heat. By the end of a season, you will end up with tons of "little" pads that you can decide how to get rid of them (switching pads out between sessions, etc.). Just my thoughts tho.
