I agree. If you check out the most current Car&Driver comparison of the new M3 and a 911 vs what happened in 2009, M3 in 2009 won or was even in the major performance categories. Today, the M3 only won cause it had back seats

Videos do not capture this cars sound. Or almost any cars sound. But especially not this one.

A cold start is the worst time for this car. Judging this cars sound on cold start is foolish.

Joe, the 0:53 time in the video shows the driver coming to a tunnel to hear how the exhaust sounds. His impression (and ours) are shown after he gets out of the tunnel. I don't think there was any cold start going on.

And I agree, there is no substitute on hearing it in real life but if you combine all the videos, and threads of people who review the car, the common theme is the REAL exhaust sound is so-so; but sounds great if you have the windows up and listen to the BMW 'active-sound' working. You can even see later in the video that when the driver tests the active-sound (i.e. windows up), the car sounds much better.

for your pleasure. sorry i took so long but I have been burning some rubber on some sweet european tarmac for the last few days. I just added 2 more roads to my list amazing.

So has you can see it will be you that will see the tailights of the "girly" cayman (the S is 0.5 quicker to 60 and of course the GTS even more)

If the reason is only 2 extra seats, man the porquer GTS is a NO brainer. Leave the kids at home. faster, louder, better handling, mid engine. better interior - except for idrive that would be missed.

I think you got this wrong... the Cayman is not a 12.1s @ 119mph 1/4 mile car like the M4 (most tests show it traps 8 to 10 mph slower which is significant). This was the slowest an M4 has been tested 0-60 with most being under 4.0. The reality is the M4 is a much faster car in a straight line (they even allude to that in the article which you posted).

I'm not suggesting straight line speed is all that matters much but your comment is incorrect. The Cayman is a great car and probably one of the purest "sports cars" around. The M's are different in their intent (far more practical) so the commentary in the review is as one would expect. Many would say the Cayman is a better driving car than a 911 too... no different. But it's not the faster car however you slice and dice it.

P.S. The Cayman GTS is slower than the M4 at the Nurburgring... 7:53 GTS vs 7:52 M4 (and that's with a Porsche test driver who are generally faster than the Sportauto drivers who tested the M4)... so even the GTS is not a "faster" car. Maybe a better driving/feel/balance car but not faster. Again, I'm not one to say that being "faster" means its a "better" car, just correcting your quote
