VS Motorsport can convert an SMG transmission to a Manual. The transmissions are both the same just a few pieces that are different ( SMG has hydraulic pump, Manual has clutch pedal and shifter etc) but the transmissions are both identicial. You only need to machine the smg bell housing and insert the necessary parts from the manual and update the software so that the car recognize's that it is now a manual.

If it did, it would probably be my favorite BMW of all time. But since it isn't, the E9 3.0 CSL holds that position.

Steve is correct in everything he says. I may not be able to agree with him on the E30 front (never been in one) and I disagree with the slander of the SMG (I think it's great!) but he's right when it comes down to what the M3 should be. The M3 needs to be a light, and powerful machine. The CSL had 350 HP or so and at the time it was deemed an engineering masterpiece.
The E46 M3 is nimble, high revving, and a screaming beast of a car. The E92, while an amazing car too, was just too heavy. It's so unfortunate that BMW released such a masterpiece of an engine and housed it around a huge body that weighs a lot. Honestly, I don't ever see myself selling my E46 M3. If I get the upcoming F30 M3, I might just treat my E46 as an everyday car - it's that good and comfortable. But I get the feeling that BMW will be asking for too much whilst upgrading insignificantly (or not upgrading enough to keep up with the competition). At the moment, I'm leaning towards a used GTR and keeping my E46 M3 as an everyday car.

Nice video.
I'm happy I ordered a 3 door M135i and got rid of my F30 boat going back to //M basics more or less. I owned an E46 M3 from 2002-2004 and an E90 M3 from 2008-2010. The first one being the much nicer car for sure. Cheers Robin |

I 've driven the E30 M3 a few times and though it has a nice steering etc it's way too slow for todays standards. The CSL is a masterpiece, but where is the GTS mr. Sutcliffe? Too expensive for its performance you say? My dealer still has one for sale
http://www.debeier.nl/bmw/auto/BMW/3...S%20M-DCT/5637 If you testdrive a 1M you don't know how fast you have to get rid of your E9x M3 tbh... Bonkers car.Fantastic. I almost bought this one instead of the M135i: http://www.debeier.nl/bmw/auto/BMW/1...oup%C3%A9/5784 Cheers Robin Last edited by Robin_NL; 11-25-2012 at 03:34 PM.. Reason: added info |

Agree No B/S. And I think he's on the money here. Of course, I'd still like to keep the V8 (was lighter than prior 6) and turbo it. Remove 150 kgs. Work on steering.

Still a travesty that the E9x has not been offered in true CS/L form. Instead we have "frozen" this and that - bah! And the 'Lime Rock' edn is no CSL.

E46 CSL was a great car, an enthusiast M3!
Like the GTS is for E92. So expect the F80 to be something like the E92 M3, but with a couple of turbo's, which makes it more easy as a daily driver. Basicly it will be like the translation from E60 M5, to the F10 M5. Again we should see a lighter car, not significant since the CF program isn't fully up yet, slightly more power, and about 30% more torque than the current M3. But the 1M is where things are looking more exciting. Remember M3 started with E30, a small nimble car, the M3 have grown out of this segment imo.

My problem with the E90 M3 6MT was the lack of torque(feel) @ normal revs(3000-5000) in normal traffic. It simply didn't feel really fast at those enginespeeds also because the E9x M3 isn't a lightweight either.

It looks like someone spun the E30 M3 at this point in the film.

Nice car but do you really drive around with a red tow hook on the street? Or does it actually see track time?

I'm so tired of that response to the weight gain of cars.
Between the e30 and the e9X the M3 gained 800+ lbs. Are you that fat that you can compensate for 800 lbs by losing weight?
