I have to really short shift the car from 1st to 2nd to keep it smooth. The other gears feel fine though. I really think it behaves better when you are a little aggressive. I don't think the MT likes to be treated gingerly.
My side question is about cutting the car off. Am I the only one that feels the car turns off very rough?

I'm not sure what the drivers in this thread are using as a comparison benchmark to determine "butter smooth". I have a C3 Corvette 4 speed 350 and I can tell you this transmission is like liquid lightning compared to that. It's probably the best MT I have ever owned and that's covering a 30+ year span of nothing but MTs

There are too many factors that play into the "mood" of the 6MT. Outside temperature, internal temperature (gears, fluid, etc.), milage/wear, build tolerance, etc. The transmission in my ZCP feels different than my non-ZCP M3. Not necessarily smoother, because they both feel great. Maybe just a little more crisp between shifts. There is about 7k milage difference between the two vehicles.

Modern FI engines do the opposite and compensate (up to a certain extent) for lower density air by increasing boost to maintain rated power in varying conditions. Another way of putting it, is that they limit power in good conditions to keep thermodynamic reserve for poorer conditions. Piggy back tunes simply tap into that reserve. Quite interestingly, I have achieved my highest top speed with my M4 at my local track on relatively hot and humid day. It was the total opposite with my E92 M3. That being said, with higher boost and hotter air, the S55 will be a bit more laggy and less responsive even if it makes similar power.

As I mentioned in other post about MT you either drive hard or drive really "normal" and it will be smooth. Try to be just a little aggressive and it won't be smooth
