I’ve fitted it while waiting for coding session later.

Is this message normal?

My only concern is there was no slack on the video cable so it was tricky to connect and seat the purple connection

Yes. Or sometimes it will just be completely black, as if it is not powered on or a dud. I'm unsure why in some cases the "no signal" message is displayed while in others the display remains completely black. In any case, the coding results in the head unit rebooting and display turning on normally.

Could you post some pictures of the fitment, especially where the display meets the driver's side dash? Thanks!

Fit is superb. Can’t fault it. Really looks factory. All told it’s €300 for adaptor plus €85 tax on import to Germany.

Screen was €180 off eBay.

Coding circa €90.

Amazing value as it’s such a refresh to the car

And considering I came from G30 530d

I really have the best of both worlds!!!

My only concern would be the obstruction of what is a key part of the vision from windscreen as I have my seat set way back.

That photo is my view and as per red highlighted section it’s spot on

I agree, the fitment is really perfect. Very OEM+. And yes, the larger display really does completely refresh the interior of the F8x. Welcome aboard!

The larger display does not at all obstruct the driver's view, which makes sense I suppose because the G3x/F90 dash is not so radically different from the dash in the F3x/F8x.

Let us know how the display looks post-coding!

Shockingly good! Resoltuon. Size and as I discovered driving from Paris to Stuttgart last weekend. Original screen is too far away to use touch

Can’t wait to try it

Thanks so much to all here. Superb info and advice.

Looks excellent! Glad you got the coding done so quickly and that our advice was helpful to you. Cheers!

During coding which was super quick it still read no signal so Kubax said cable
Was seated right(which I had feared as the was no slack at all on the cable)

So I took out two screws. Lifted the screen firmed up the purple connection and it worked inefficiently.

Strangely I noticed while out driving that screen was a touch upright.

So low and behold there is a gap at the back which wasn’t there on first install.

It all sits perfectly until I get to the last few turns on the right screw

If I tighten it fully I feel it pushing the back of the adaptor up.

Tried to re seat it twice but it’s the same.

All I can think of it a few washers in front of right hand side screw so that it doesn’t foul or push on the trim

Anyone else seen this ?

Overall I’m thrilled with it. Just went out for food. Google maps, CarPlay. SoundCloud. All look superb.

The Kyocera display is the one BimmerTech uses in its promotional video for its adapter. Look closely at around the 1:55 to 2:00 mark in the video. So the Kyocera should work just fine.

I have a 2016 M4 with I believe the NBT iD4 with an 8.8 inch screen would i be able to upgrade to this? So I need to pay roughly $300 for the screen + $200 for coding + $300 for adapter to make this work?

I’m not the expert but if you find a scaler screen on eBay for $200 then the adapter is $300 and Kubax is great value and can code it for $100

Amazing value for money

Also you can sell your 8 inch screen as they seem to sell for $300

You have to do it. It feels like
I’ve got a new car. I’ve 60k miles on mine. I’m going to keep it and put another 60k on it!

You could also get the MGU version of the 10.25" display, which was the final version of that part which operated at the higher resolution of 1920x720. The earlier SCALER unit operates at 1440x540. Used MGU and SCALER displays seem to go for about the same price.

The main benefit of using the MGU display is that the BMW OEM maps display at the higher 1920x720 resolution. All other menu content and apps seem to display at 1440x540. The NBTevo head unit was never designed to operate at 1920x720, so to make the MGU unit work requires more extensive/expensive coding. But the result is awesome if you are a fan of higher resolution displays (like on a computer). If you also prefer lower resolution (larger content) maps, Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze all appear to operate at 1440x540 on the MGU display. So the MGU is kind of the best of both worlds.

The SCALER unit is the easiest and most cost-effective solution, however. Coding is easier and cheaper, and the 1440x540 looks amazing as well.

To source either unit, I recommend looking at Straight Six Auto Parts' eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/straightsixautoparts

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Your fitment is not all that different from mine. See pictures.
