Does Bmw road test your car after oil change?

It's my second time in for service. First was the 1200 mile break in and I'm pretty sure they did not take the car out. Fast forward 7 months which is today, the tech took it out for a few minutes. I question the sa about the road test. She says they road test all the vehicles they service In the past I've taking my Crosstrek, Evo, TL to dealers for oil changes. Not once I recall them taking it out. I can understand if suspension or major engine work was done. But an oil change???? What you guys think?

I think part of the process is to reset the tpms so they take it out for a spin to make sure i reset correctly.

Likely a standard procedure. Depending on the oil temp, it may be required to drive a little in order to warm it up enough for a reading to ensure the full level is ok. But the tech was prob just thrashing your car unnecessarily

usually the tech will take it for a spin to make sure everything is in order. ITs part of the BMW process/std procedures

I can reset the tpms myself. Most likely will have them skip that standard procedure next time.

work with your specific SA and they will give you the options they offer when it comes to their stores procedures.

I've never once had a tech road test any of my BMW's over a simple oil change/check-up.

FWIW, a quick test drive is the prudent thing to do after any service visit.

If you don't want them to drive it more than to/from the service bay, make that point 100% clear before dropping it off and everyone will end up happy.

What's the issue if the tech takes it for a short drive just to see everything is fine and no oil leaks!! unless he takes it for a joy ride

I've been to two different places and the first place with my M3 they test drove the car after the oil change, at the place I currently use, they do not test drive the car after oil change; I didn't tell them anything lol but I am sure it doesn't hurt the car with a simple test drive, unless they do a burn out destroying your tires then that's a different story.

The issue is I don't want no one driving my bitch unless its necessary. In my 20 years of taking cars for oil changes a test drive after is not necessary.

I consider a road test to be one of the most important parts of the services we perform at my shop, any one can drain and refill your oil but a big part of what you're getting by taking your car to a professional is to have them inspect your car visually, measure wear items, and drive the car to be able to tell you what is worn out or damaged now or what may be wearing out or failing in the near future. You'd be surprised by what we find every single day that the owners of cars were completely unaware of.

If you prefer not to have the car road tested (or washed or anything else), just tell your service advisor and I'm sure they will happily save themselves the time. I have some customers who ask me not to have their cars driven for basic jobs and I have no problem with that at all.

Steering wheel can get dirty if the driver has dirty hands. Same issue with the seats if their uniform is dirty but some dealerships cover the seats with plastic.

I just had my tires replaced w/ an alignment. Two people drove my car but luckily it was just a few feet each time. They did not wash their hands prior to driving my car and their hands were filthy. I cleaned my steering wheel once I got home and the wash cloth was completely black.

My car was road tested at 100mph by the tech after my 1200 oil change with the tech shouting "hell yeah" as he banged gears.

He didnt notice my dash camera though... I no longer use that dealership.

They don't give a sh*t. I always leave a shirt on both front seats as covers. Tech that took the car in want to remove it. I'm like no. Its there for a reason in a friendly tone of course. Everything the tech touches gets wipe down after. You don't know where his hands been. Your car is just another car they're working on that day just like any other day. They just don't give a SH*T.

I'd love to see that footage. I hope you showed it to your SA and service manager
