Steering Wheel Too Thick?
Anyone feel the steering wheel on the M3 is too thick? My wife test drove one with me a few weeks ago and complained that she couldn't comfortably hold the wheel. Anyone else have this complaint? And is it possible to make the wheel thinner by taking out some of the padding?

it is perfect IMO. Some people do complain about it, but I love it. One of my favorite things about driving the car.

However, seeing the kinds of things that she is looking for, may we suggest a 328i or something of the sort for her? Maybe a nice Audi A5, Mercedes-Benz C300, lots of other choices for her out there. i drove a 328i rental once, and the steering wheel was nice and thin. Superb. if you think its too thick, just trade the wheel with someone who has a 335. i am sure there'll be tons of 335 owners who would be willing to trade up to an m3 wheel. you could probably ask for a trade + some cash too....
but i agree that it may be too thick for some women esp if they have small hands. my gf doesnt like my steering wheel either.

Try a 3 series steering wheel with heated option...its very thin for my liking.
The M3 steering wheel is just right...it give you good grip and good response to the road condition. You definitely don't want to destroy the steering wheel by taking the padding out. Buy an aftermarket replacement if you want. |

I find the current M3 wheel to be perfect.
In older BMWs I had, I often replaced the larger s. wheels with smaller, thicker aftermarket ones.

OP, why do you name yourself after a benzodiazepine-receptor antagonist? Are you a drug rep or something?

Honestly the first thing I said when I sat in the M3 is the steering wheel is the perfect size. Not just thickness but the diameter too.
Can I get a "That's what she said"? |

I personally think it's great, however I do see where your wife is coming from.
I've always loved thick steering wheels. From a regular Acura Integra, to my S2000, to an aftermarket wheel. They have gone steadily thicker. The one on the E92M however is even thicker than that and actually surprised me. It's on the verge of being too much, but I think it's perfect.
