Thinking about going to an all-season tire. Recommendations?

I am thinking about going to an all-season tire to reduce rock chips. The MPSS tires are quickly destroying my car by throwing gravel and sand against the car. I am looking for a less sticky tire while not killing performance. Has anyone switched to an all-season tire and do you have any recommendations?

Here is the post I had on the damage to my car:

There is no such thing as "less sticky tire that does not kill performance".
You will miss the traction.
Instantly. All the time.

Having said all that, I've heard great things about Michelin Pilot AS3.

What he said.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 is probably a good bet but I would bet $100 that you notice a difference in how the car feels and performs. Maybe not enough for it to matter to you but there will be a noticeable difference IMO.

Understood. I am willing to sacrifice some performance but not lose a lot. The AS3 has been the one I have been looking at. I am hoping that this is still not too sticky. I would hate to go out and buy another set of tires to fix this problem and they do the same thing.

Just get an installer to put some 3M Xpel on those areas and enjoy tires that can hold up to the torque of your car.

Going to an all-season tire (even the best one on the market) will make a significant difference in handling, especially when comparing with the MPSS, which is pretty much the best street summer tire. I would stick with the MPSS and pay a few hundred bucks to put films on the affected areas.

I have tons of rock chips in the front of the car from driving on highways extensively, and it sucked at first but I don't really care now anymore. I bought the car to enjoy the driving dynamics and not bend over small cosmetic defects.

At 1000 miles the factory plastic paint protection on the quarters is already beat up. I have never seen a car do this before.

What are the areas that are getting damaged? Maybe post some pics as well? Would like to make sure my car is covered there

Pics are in the link on my first post. It is pretty much any surface that are in a direct line of the front and rear tires.

The money spent on tires would be better spent on Xpel

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, only for different reasons than the OP.

I'm in North Texas and we have a fair amount of cold/dry days in the wintertime. I drove mine all winter long (with the exception of snow and ice days, probably 4-5 days total) and as everyone probably knows the PSS tires give up A LOT of dry traction at temps below 40 degrees. What's ironic is that at these temps the engine feels it strongest, so it's frustrating to have the car so willing to scream and not having the cold weather traction to do so.

I am strongly considering Pilot A/S 3s in early fall, when I'll need new tires. What are everybody's thoughts?

You will loose traction with all season tire while kicking up even more rocks against the car.

It's too late for protection film - the pain already has a few chips, and they are particularly visible on black car. Sealing them over with film wont fix it (though may prevent new chips).

I would just accept a few chips as a cost of doing business. If you routinely drive over gravel roads, a tire that sticks beyond the edge of the fender will do this. Any tire. I'm not sure going with a less sticky tire will offer enough of an improvement in gravel pickup to justify loss of traction and performance.

Or pay someone to touch-up all of them, or DIY touch them up. You will get good at this in a hurry !

I think you will regret OP.

I have 255/19/9.5 square Conti DWS as my "winter set-up" after a major cluster-f this past winter when my dedicated winter rubber Pirelli Sottozeros could not be located/replaced after a piece of shrapnel took out my RR tire. Talk about a major PITA!!!

I have had DWS in the past as a winter setup, but I think the F8X is just too much power for any sort of A/S rubber
