I think the OP asks a reasonable question. I've had other sports cars with summer only rubber (and winter tires in that season), and cars/SUVs with all season tires. I have never had any car kick up as much stuff as the M3 with MPSS tires! And I've had plenty where the tires stick out, the fenders are wide, the tires are summer very high performance (or track), etc.

Sure you give up some traction going from summer high performance to all season, but I don't drive on the street near the car's limits, nor the tires' limits. I'm quite capable of enjoying my M3 with its winter tires on (even with the traction limitations of the narrower, harder rubber), so I'm pretty sure an all season compound would still be a hoot to drive. Might even last a few more clicks.

I would consider other summer rubber as well, however, if it makes sense in the OP's climate. Nitto, Hankook, Bridgestone, and others make very good summer tires, and even Michelin has other tires available. I'd ask around to see if any of them are throwing up the crud these MPSS's are, and then decide.

Please let us know what you do - as these cars come up through their first sets of tires I'm sure many more will be interested in experiences on other tires.

I woke up my M3 from a winter nap in March but it was still too cold to run the PSS in Iowa so I swapped to the A/S 3 for the spring. The turn in is not sharp as you can imagine but I find grip just fine with WOT. I don't have rock chip issues with either. That must be specific to your road conditions.

Any experience with NYC roads and I95 NYC to CT? I am fearful that my new M4 con will get destroyed by these roads - killed my old 335 conv with sport package, but my 335 con without sport did better

I use Continental DWS in winter, but quickly switch back when the temp warms up. It really does make the car completely different running all-seasons.

But with that being said, I have found the DWSs to be great tires.
