I installed mine last night. It is better to screw in the two middle screws so the diffuser doesn't flap around while driving. Otherwise the two outside screw holes would take more stress from movement.

Has anyone tried any mods to make the sensor work with the diffuser? I canceled my diffuser order because I've used the kick sensor 20x already (costco, soccer, you name it). Seems like it's something where a part could be moved or subtle dremel work might help...

I bought the diffuser and am returning it now.

The dealer had to call BMW and it does not work.

This is BS!
I shouldn't pay this much for a non working diffuser.

Oh well!
Money will be spent on Akra downpipes which arrive this week.

I can confirm that the "kick to open trunk" feature stopped working since I installed the diffuser. Not a deal breaker for me since I really dig the look of the diffuser paired with the MPE.

Did yours stopped working as well?

I don't have my car, so I can't just go out and check the sensor placement but I saw this picture and looks like the sensor is towards the rear, black strip???, so no-go on cutting the diffuser for sensors. There goes that idea.

Foot trunk release & Rear diffusers

Hi All,

I know some owners were having issues with the trunk release not working with the MPE diffuser.
Is this issue effecting all the carbon aftermarket options too? Has anyone got a new rear diffuser and still able to use their foot trunk release?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it has to do with all carbon fiber diffusers.

Is it the carbon over the poly? or is it due to the shape?
Wondering if its possible to move the sensor to have the best of both worlds....

I can confirm that carbon fibre diffuser DOES affect foot truck release.
It works if you stand behind your car, swing your foot underneath and kick your diffuser for a minute until you triger that magic point.

It worked 100% of time for me before fitting carbon fibre diffuser.

Update, I just got one of the Ebay carbon rear diffusers and it DOES work.
Foot release is still working, same as it was with the original OEM.
Not endorsing cheaper Ebay China products, but for the price had to give it a shot as the originals were not stocked locally in Australia

Out of curiosity, which seller did you buy from? How is the fitment? If this is true I'm all over it!

I honestly don't care where its from as long as it doesn't look like shit.

I'd never regain any money from selling those high dollar CF pieces, plus I'd feel awful if I messed them up somehow. I've bought many parts in my day, and that's just the way it goes. I'm not taking any credit away from those said high dollar guys...

I have a thread on this, can't link now since I'm on mobile.

Carbon fiber insulates radio frequencies, that is why the trunk kick doesn't work.

Enjoy the kick diffuser while you can... In due time, you'll be getting a carbon diffuser and you'll too realize that you'll give up the "kick" feature for carbon fiber rear bumper glory.
