They add a thick foam tape on the backside of the splitters now. Did yours have foam on the backside? If not, then they revised the install.
No only 3 m tape with the red plastic cover

Do not use Betalink unless you want this permanently installed. It will bond itself to paint surface and cannot be removed without damage.

Proper cleaning (removing all wax/grime buildup) and 3M double-sided tape is all that's needed for splitters.

Are you matching the holes. There is two that need to line up.
Once those line up you only cut the indented part of the template. leaving that part that is about 5 inches long.on the right side of the template.
So you will split the rubber in about the point I am talking about(indented) and start cutting about 1/2 inch deep towards the left side taking the soft rubber and about 1/2of the hard plastic with the soft rubber.
Is this where you start cutting?

And with two holes lined up, I would have to cut all of this off too? (lowerd the template to show the white trace line made from it).

Thanks for the help this time, I do appreciate it.

Odd, mine came with thick foam about 1/2" wide that covered all edges. It actually helped slide the covers on without actually touching/scratching the bumper on the install.

HEre is a picture of how mine came. This is from IND.

http://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/imag...in-stock_4.jpg

I had to get 1/4" thick double sided tape to run along side it. The foam tape ended up being too thick for the 3m tape so mine dont have any tape holding them. Just the one install screw, foam tape pressure and now the lower splitter screws going thru them holding mine on.

My rear deck spoiler had the double sided tape all over it though.

Here is a ms paint edit...lol.

I marked what I am now wondering is what i need to cut off.

View post on imgur.com

If I was to outline the trace, the left side of this cover would get a rather decent size cut off.

And if I was to literally trace the template, I would have to cut all of this off too?

Yes that is it cut Soft rubber and 1/2 inch behind it. Until you hit the wider rubber side of the deflector. You will have about 4-5 inches of the wider rubber flap left...

Do your splitters have foam tape on the back side? If so you will not have much space for double sided tape.

It appears the old versions came with double sided tape pre installed.

Mine came with foam tape which hug the splitter on the bumper pretty good.

I tried added 1/4" inch wide double tape to mine and the foam was much taller than the tape so it didnt hold at all.

If you are installing the bottom lip, if not worry about tape as you will have 6 set screws going through the bottom of the carbon splitter and into the bumper they are covering anyhow.

Blows me away we have had this car a year plus and there is all this misinformation on this lip.

Yep for both left and right deflector covers.
The problem I found with the original instructions is:
The pictures are looking from the bottom up from the underside. and they only show one side of the lip.
You need to apply the information to the other side as well.

I have never heard of any holes being drilled into the splitter. It just has the one pre-drilled hole for a bolt that goes through. Drilling six set screws into the splitter doesn't sound right at all.

I cant help but try and laugh at all of this. I hope to god I didnt do that wrong, but if I did, oh well. That lip is ON! lol

According to page 15 on the install sheet, first pic. You attach the lower middle section of the lip to the bumper/spiltters by drilling those 6 holes.

HEy IND, EAS. Since you're watching the thread, do you guys have any suggestions on the install? How do you guys install these lips? What do YOU guys cut? Can you guys make sense of the BMW instructions on the templates?

Its always nice to have all options brought to the table so if you guys have any suggestions or techniques, we'd love to hear them.

Six on each side. Remember always this instructions are referring only to one side you have to do the same on the other side.

Also 2 blind rivets on each side on the very corners of the inner structure before you install the lip cover. Lip Cover is held by a 12 blind rivets and two screws that use the tabs and very small c-clips.

Thank you. That all I did correctly. Except the two counter sunk holes on the otter lip. I still dont see how you get your hand literally behind the fender to hold the plastic stick with the C lip and hope you connect with a screw from below.

Amazon has it, look for 3M part number 06382. Be sure to use some sort of adhesive cleaner beforehand to secure a good bond.

I pulled the wheel well cover just enough to see the screw and place the tab with the c-clip on top of it and and rotate to engage to c-clip to the screw.
Or you can just screw it and do hand tight with out that part. It will hold but It will be better with the clip .
