17 M3 Clearcoat Issue

Have you guys ever seen this? Brand new 2017 M3, picked it up a week ago and noticed these spots in my wash over the weekend. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Do they come off with light fingernail pressure?

Somewhat difficult to tell from the photo, but water spots of some kind?

I'd suggest starting with something relatively benign and go more aggressive only if need be. I'm a big fan of Carpro's products, might start with their Spotless spray, just be sure to following directions on the bottle, and use a good quality microfiber. This worked amazingly well for me for some seriously etched-in spots that came from some water that hit my car after percolating through concrete above in a parking garage.

Thanks for the reply. They definitely look like water spots, but don't seem to be "on top" of the paint like all other water spots. Almost seems to be under the clear coat. They don't seem to rub off using a fingernail.

I'm thinking about trying some compound next, but to me it looks like condensation is caught under the clear coat.

When I took delivery of my 17 M4 a couple months ago, I noticed something like that on my roof (carbon fiber). Large spot, maybe about 4-5" in diameter. Ran over it with some polish and compound, using different colored pads, (after wash, clay bar, etc), still there. It's definitely not a water spot, and like you mentioned, possible defect in the clear coat. You can really only see it under certain lighting and angles, so I just applied some sealant over the roof and called it a day. Unsure if I should pursue this, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

Keep us updated if you take this up with your dealer.

I'd try the CR-Spotless before compounding as well.
