Order number?

Hi, I ordered an M4 on 12/29 and the dealer has an order number, and not a production number, with a status of 037. Should it have a production number yet? It's a semi individual TB over Cohiba. He did mention something about an individual hold.

Thanks

Thanks, the status code with a production number was throwing me off. Glad to hear it's normal.

not to interject, but I would say GrussGott is telling you that this is NOT normal. i.e. if you do not have a production number yet, you have not actually ordered any car officially.

not sure what your CA means by "individual hold." The day I ordered my full individual paint F80 I got a production number the day I ordered it with my dealer. At the time the Status was "112 Order scheduled for Production" right from the start.

But since it was a full individual paint order, once BMW gets your request they'll knock the Status back down to "Status: 102 - Special request order rec. -AG" . It will stay there until the Individual rep approves it and then it will go back to 112. See this really helpful post:

I would guess maybe that is the "Individual Hold" your CA is referring to perhaps? But that should not be holding you back from getting a production number...

Yeah - there's no factory "individual hold" because BMWAG has no idea about the order:

(1.) Dealer said, "hey BMWNA a dude says he wants a car"

(2.) BMWNA said, "ummm ... maybe .... maybe not though."

And that's where things stand.

There can't be a factory hold because there's no production week assigned, no order sent to the factory, and no agreement from the factory (BMWAG).

Now, BMWNA might be telling the dealer something like, "oh, this is an Individual Collection order so, uh, yeah we gotta figure out how we're going to slot those this year ... then we can send in the order" and the dealer is translating that "Individual hold"

Or the dealer has no allocation and is stringing the customer along.

I don’t think they are stringing me along allocation wise, as they are a high volume M dealer; with my current m4 I had a production number within days. Has anyone heard of having an order though? That’s the part that threw me off.

Factory where the M4 is produced is closed till week 5. Maybe that’s the reason you haven’t got a production number yet?

There isn't really a "we have allocation but we cannot give you production #".

I have been through this process enough to know there are two possibilities.

1.) Your dealership doesn't have the allocation at the time they said they do, so they are essentially telling you something else until your actual date comes.

2.) They do have it but they don't know any details, which happens often more than you think.

As I have learned from GrussGott personally about my individual Grigio Medio/Nutmeg, the only sure way you can 100% confirm about your order, if they actually did the order or not, is to ask BMWNA directly. Dealerships are last in line to know anything about your car, and if it is individual order (full individual not semi individual), they take even longer to find out. If your dealership has allocation, you should have your production #. It is honestly that simple. If they (as in BMW NA) said they cannot give you a production # then that means your dealership doesn't have allocation.

Just because the dealership is high volume doesn't necessarily mean they have allocation. I know several high volume dealerships here that lacks allocation for the 2018 F80 still. Contact BMW NA directly, email and ask. Then you will know for certain. Do not call BMW Genius because they don't have everything until your car is actually in production. If your order is an normal order, you should get everything very quickly, production # and VIR. Individual order, you have to go through BMW NA to find out quicker as dealerships have to ask through multiple people to find out, before giving you an answer.

My dealership had a notice showing the factory in Munich would be closed from week 52 through week 4, and that no production would take place. Maybe they start up in week 4 already.
