Impressions and quirks after two months of ownership

After driving an E92 M3 for five years, now I am into my second month with an F82 M4 ZCP 6MT and here are my impressions so far:

- It feels like this car wants to kill me more than the E92
- Gas mileage is not that great based on the super hyped Efficient Dynamics marketing logo. It's definitely better than the E92, but not all that better. Average 21 mpg overall.
- Back seat access is the biggest pain in the neck ever! Here's the drill: slide seat backwards, fold seat, slide front seat forward, passenger enters, slide seat backwards, unfold seat... then readjust seat or press seat memory button... two passengers, gotta do it twice... almost buying a second car in case I have more than one passenger...
- When closing the hood, it usually latches just one side... I have to slam it to get both sides to lock up... breaks my heart every time

Overall, this car is a beast and i couldn't be any happier to be behind the wheel!

What about you guys, disagree with my list above? Any other annoyances? Or just me?

For the hood, hold it at about 2.3-3' up and just let go. Let the weight do the work.

Good reveiw, as far as the hood goes,, mine works perfect, I just let my hood down let it rest on the latches and push with the palm of my hands over the latches and click click it latches no hard pressure at all .. Looks like trip the Dealer..

Wasn't the gas mileage on an E92 14 mpg (as far as my experience)? So 21 mpg would be a 50% improvement. If that's not better to you, you Sir, have high standards.

Perhaps you should have bought a 4-door F80 M3 instead. In my case, I hardly ever have passengers in my back seat.

This.

My E90 M3 would get roughly 13-14MPG in the city, and ~20 or so on the highway.

The F80 regularly gets 21 or so in the city and I've typically 27-30 on the highway trips.

My 41 year old daughter gets in the back seat of my M4 almost daily with no problem at all. As mentioned, the key to closing the hood is to just drop it. The owners manual says that pressing down on it could cause damage to the hood.

Thats what I was thinking. I never got above 16mpg or so in my E90 M3. In my F80 I am consistently at 20mpg+. Definitely a noticeable improvement.

I'd say I get pretty good mileage in my F80. I probably get about 25 mpg overall, can't complain about that. The car doesn't really knock my socks off like I expected it to (maybe I'm just not letting it loose, idk...), but damn it is beautiful looking.

I had a good mix between spirited driving and easy driving and my average was about 18 mpg...

Valid point but there were no warnings about the impact of the way they designed the front seats. They are too tall and hit the ceiling when folded normally. And I like the coupe better... so I will learn to live with it

Putting the seats in a lower position keeps them from hitting the roof and also prevents them from breaking your visor mirrors. You are right, though, design could have been better.

If you are averaging 25mpg you are definitely not getting on it enough...

My E92 hood did the same thing, FWIW. But my F80 does not. So it's a random BMW thing I think.

I got 18 mpg on my e92 and get 23 mpg on my F80 for daily driving.

If you are worried about back seat access you should have gotten the F80 like I did lol. Does yours have a sunroof? That might explain the short ceiling hitting the seats.

Philosophy of use. Of the many raison d'etre of the M3 is its practicality for back seat passenger comfort/ingress/egress. Coupes are not designed for this practicality. Hence the M4 is only useful for the casual need for back seat passengers when needed to get to the restaurant, symphony, or playoff HS football game across town. Not a road trip vehicle with more than 2 people.

Putting the seats in a lower position..,[/QUOTE]

This! : Did the trick I desperately needed! Seriously, Tip of the century... and I'm not kidding!

Thanks for all the tips... hope I get the hood thing right next time...

You're right about that! In the past I had a 428 GC to do the dirty work and my M was reserved only for fun, and hardly used the back seats. And that worked great!

Soon I'll have to add another car or hire a full time babysitter
Cheers!
