Thanks. Here is a better look at her boots in the daylight.
The front is the same size but the rear is ever so slightly tucked in. But the 19" does look good so far. Cheers. |

I thought about just swapping the rubbers too, but didn't want to have a staggered set up for winter. OEM does looks much better!! |

Hey Guys.
It’s snowing and I am having my 640M setup installed at the dealership today, perfect timing. First of all, I would like to thank CanAutM3 and Kanuck for helping me with my decision to go with Factory recommended 640M setup. Although, I am still not convinced as to why the wheel has to be staggered with square tire setup. I am no expert in this kind of technical stuff other than will it fit or is it safe or does it look okay, etc. Anyway, I hope BMW’s decision to go with staggered wheel has nothing to do with marketing crap which will force the owner to rotate the tire only or replace the rear tire more often. I guess that’s the price you pay for guarantee fitment for M3/M4 in 18” setup. |

Has anyone have any experience to deal with Jspec Performance? located at 3520 McNicoll Avenue, Unit 8, Scarborough (major intersection: Markham Road / McNicoll Avenue).
http://www.jspecperformance.com/default.asp they said all BBS rims are authentic from JPR distributor. and they got a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JSPECPERF/p...type=3&theater found this site via kijiji.ca http://www.kijiji.ca/v-tires-rims/ma...ationFlag=true Very reasonable price range (somewhat can't compare with tirerack price tho, but still) they sell BBS 18" SR019 (exactly the same as TireRack one) https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...ed&showRear=no I wondered if they sell authentic BBS rims or replica? any idea / comment would be highly appreciated!! thanks all. Picked up a set of GTS M5 black alloy wheels 19 * 8.5 with 245/40 19 Michelin X-Ice Xi3 last night at SimplyTire where I always get my wheels and tires.
Looks great. Here's the but ..... Last night the roads were completely dry and the car felt too floaty and not reasonably planted (not comparing it to my summers by any means obviously) driving on Don Valley and 401 in the speed range of 90-120 Km/h ! I mean floaty to the degree of discomfort and feeling a tad unsafe. Today I read the tire threads on here for our M4s & M3s and it doesn't seem that many opted for the X-Ice !!! I live and work in downtown so my drives almost always are on cold, dry or wet with the occasional little snow on the ground..... If there's too much snow then my assistant picks me up. So we can say for me the performance is more important than deep snow driving. But I drive my car everyday. ( conditions permitting ) I'd appreciate if anyone can enlighten me a little. Did I pick the wrong tires for my purpose? Never had this issue with my winter tires on my 335 or 335is. |

Anyway, I think you have the exact dilemma others (including me) face. Performance car - do I buy for the dry or the (odd) heavy snow/ice day. I went for the dry (I am in Calgary - don't drive every day, 90% of our winter days are dry pavement or mild/wet/melting as opposed to the deep snow days of my Saskatchewan youth). I went performance. I would tell you how they are, but my ride is not quite here yet. I think others (@gthal?) went with the more snow/ice tire (Blizzaks, I think...) X-Ice are good tires - so you should be ok in the long run, even if you are sacrificing dry traction/performance. One other thing to note: winter tires actually do take a bit of time to 'break in' (they come out of the process with a little extra silicone or something on them which can make them feel a little more hairy for the first bit). I'm sure others have better comments/advice, but good luck man.

Thanks for sharing man. Same in downtown Toronto, most days are dry. Yeah .... And that's what I specifically talked about with Andy at SimplyTire "I want performance over snow traction" And attached are the options I was given. I completely agree with you on the break in period.... But this ride felt just like my first ride a few years ago right after a shop mistakenly had mounted deep snow tires on my 335. I returned the tires the day after. So what would be the best performance option ? I hope that I atleast have the right wheel size for the performance tires :

I'm not personally familiar with all those tires. I think the blizzard lm32s are the performance ones though. Some Pirelli sottozeros are ok too.
Both tirerack and 1010tire.com have pretty good review sites that give good deets on pros and cons of various rubber. I would start there.

I see a lot of members here got the Blizzak LM-32.
I had read the reviews on 1010tires on Michelin and Pirelli but there's no reviews on Blizzaks on there. Tons of reviews on Michelin yet surprisingly almost non from a performance car owner !!! : Actually I wanted the Pirelli Sottozero, price was not an issue, but Andy said they get noisy and the tread life is too short.

Glad you are asking. I told @woosolow that I was going to take my car out for a spin last night with the Blizzaks on snow. The result was that it didn't run as well as I wanted on thick snow. I was like slippin' and slidin' all over the place. It was fun, but not as much traction as I would have expected from winter tires. I think there are 2 things:
1) The LM-32 are more geared for performance, so definitely ain't going to be as good in 10cm of snow. 2) The car is just a serious torque monster. I actually wanted the softer compound (WS60, I think) but was suggested that with the M4, it will likely rip the thread apart on that tire. Also, my experience on my 335i was also no problem. Much less spinning and better traction. But I guess M4 just pushes that much harder. Hope this helps. Cheers. Quote:

I did not drive my M4 yesterday as I used my wifes X3 with 19" LM 32's and the tires take a lot of provocation to induce sliding in the snow we had yesterday.Drove the M4 today on some snow covered packed roads and seemed quite good for what it is so I am sure the LM32's will fine for a Toronto winter on the M.
