Uniden all the way guys!
I'm using uniden r3 but I still have the laser problem. Where do you mount it?

Finally got through to Escort support. They are aware of the laser falsing on newer vehicles and do not have a fix o ther than to turn laser alerts off.

To the right of the mirror right under the black dot matrix.

I have zero laser issues. Have you updated your firmware?

I'm running the latest firmware. However I'm using blendmount which mounts my r3 just below the mirror.

That's strange. I'd just disable laser then. Ka band is king anyhow. Well at least around me it is.

Try using the stock mount where I am.

I’ve been reading good things about the uniden r3 and am looking at picking it up. Is there a reason for mounting right of the mirror vs left (assuming you aren’t in the UK and the right would be closer to your driving position)?

Just to keep it out of cops view. If approached from driver side in US, they can't see it due to my rear view mirror kind of blocking its view.

I also find it easier to reach mute. The ONE time I had to press it.

Thing thing is no joke! I got 2 miles warning on flat highway the other day.

2 miles!!!

I am having this same issue with my Uniden R3 giving me false laser warnings in my 2018 M3. Detector is mounted under the mirror using the Blendmount. Makes me believe I may need to consider an installed option rather than add-on device.

I had exactly the same setup and were having the same problem.
I retrofitted an f15 x5 10.25 inch display and solved the problem.

I’m bringing this thread back to life. I just got a 2018 M3 and the second I turned on my V1 the false laser warning started and didn’t stop at all. I tried a few different locations and the windshield and the only area that it didn’t get the false warning was to the left of the mirror up near the roof. However, three hours into my drive it started giving the warning again and I had to turn it off altogether.

I don’t want to disable the laser warning as laser is predominately used where I live, and it detects the reflection off of the cars around me pretty well. I’ve been using the V1 for 20 years and get it updated every two years. Out of the 50+ cars I’ve used it in, the M3 is the first car to cause it to have an unrelenting false.

Has anyone figured out how to work around this issue.

tl;dr: Uniden R7 above the mirror has not falsed on me...Hopefully the redesigned V1 on the way will address this issue (likely not possible)

Timely post...was just going to revive this myself...I put my V1 up there in my '18 to the left and it stayed mostly quiet, but would get some false laser alerts here and there and wasn't sure if they were real or false so ended up turning laser band off entirely. V1 is one of the most sensitive laser detectors out there and honestly with all the mazda's, volvos, and infinities setting it off I just am numb to it now. Anywhere below the mirror like a blend mount and it was just constant laser alert.

However recently got a Uniden R7 for another car (and to try something other than V1 which I have been using since 2003) and put it in the same location in the M3 to the left above the mirror (same place my V1 is in the picture) and zero falses on laser after a week. Granted the R7 laser sensitivity is much less than the V1 so maybe thats the trick. But based on that the R7 is now staying in the M3 so I have some laser notification (if its even worth it) and the Ford will be inheriting the V1...

and FYI V1 is coming out with an entirely new detector hopefully in the next couple of months, so maybe they will find a way to fix the falses...but the R7 has been rock solid in the laser falses department. Ridiculously big though...the R7 is clearly awesome with Ka band however with custom sweeps set up on my V1 it will pick up Ka 1 - 1.5 miles out on straight/flat-ish sections of road so not sure that finding out 2 miles out would even be helpful to me...I do like the customizability of the R7, hopefully the redesigned V1 with be this customizable. Wish I could put V1 sound effects into the R7 though, those sounds I believe are part of my DNA now...

Other option is 2 pieces of electric tape on either side of your touchscreen to block the lasers at the side of the screen, or tape a piece of plastic/cardboard on the bottom of the V1 extending to the windshield to shield the eye from the touchscreen.

Does anyone know what FUSE protects the GREEN/BROWN wire that we all are using to tap into at the Mirror to supply POSITIVE power to our radar detectors? I had everything working for 2+ years and then the detector fell off the windshield, yanking the wires which blew a fuse. There is no positive power at the GREEN/BROWN wire anymore when there used to be +12 volts normally. Interestingly everything is working in the mirror, homelink, rain sensor and compass are all working. Does anyone know which fuse covers the Green / Brown wire? Thanks in advance.
