I was also told you had 500 miles grace (1700 miles max) for the RIS.

But who knows, I guess you're better off with one that has been serviced on the button than not.

I had a look on the main forum regarding this it appears that the spark plugs get changed every 3rd oil service regardless of mileage.
Quite a lot has to be taken off the engine to get to them so labour will be the defining factor in the charge. I'll getting a new car if they try and charge me £1200 when it needs servicing, great excuse!

I wonder what the first item is: "Service - standard scope" at £26?
Why is there two air filters? As said, plugs seem a rip off. Out of interest, the column "AW" looks like the labour charge, so 2.00 is £26 (or 1.00 is £13). But what does the 1.00 or 2.00 represent in terms of a unit of time? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? I assume its 5 minutes then that would make the hourly rate £156 If my assumptions are correct, they have charged 2 and a half hours to change the plugs.

Hi
So in theory.....if you bought a pre reg with 11 mile street on the clock, it's officially used, so would you get the RIS when due for free, based on the BMW logic of you won't need to service it for 6 months, I'm guessing not......can't see anything now on BMW site about buying used and servicing will have been carried out. Thanks John |

Illogical Service intervals
My previous M5 had a Service Pack so the more it got serviced, the better value I got. I bought the car new and unregistered in December from dealer stock, drove it the requisite 1200 miles and had the RIS done in March.
Car came back showing something like 16,000 miles to next service. Over about 14 months I drove roughly 10,000miles, the service indicator showing a consistent 6,000 miles to next service. Suddenly in June, the car showed <Next Service Due>, so I booked it in. I asked my SA why the car's service indicator suddenly skipped 6,000 miles and he told me that the 2nd service was scheduled based on the car's production date, which was June. This is obviously illogical, because the 2nd service should depend on either mileage or the date of the first service. However, if this is indeed the logic used, it is possible that a car with lowish mileage whose service schedule is based on production date could schedule the wrong service. |
