Definitely do a trade to get the tax incentive, or sell privately. Although I think the tax in Virginia is fairly low, so maybe not a big factor like in other states.
If it was an M3 and in California or Florida, He would probably get 55K to 58K on that car.

About 6 months ago, a co worker bought a DCT equipped SO M3 through the ED program and got about 12 % off of MSRP. She got another 2500 $ off through the fleet discount. She was looking for used cars under a year old but ended up doing this because it was roughly 2500$ more for a brand new car. She paid like 58K + Tax for the car. Also, you get slightly better deals on M4s than on M3s.

My local dealership had an Austin Yellow M4 as of last week with 9K miles for 59000 $. Cerritos Auto has a DCT equipped 2015 M4 with similar miles for 55000 $. These are dealership prices and negotiable.

P.S. I am not nuts and neither am I trying to buy an M3/M4.

Agree with this but the competition package is not your typical option. If I was getting an M3/M4, I would absolutely not get it without the CP when it is actually available and at a very reasonable price.

Also, the 20% return on options is not on a car this new.

Manheim.com wholesale prices

So I have login access to the Manheim auction house website (dealer only access) where all dealers buy and sell on the wholesale market across the nation. I can see what they are listed for and what they sell for (between dealers, not the public). MY15 are averaging sales in the $46-50k range. MY16 are around $52-$56k range. WHOLESALE prices. Yes, you will get screwed on trade in. Be patient and sell private.

Private sell will be the best top dollars. Second, trade into what you really want. Hopefully you can negotiate on both side of the cars and not come out with a big lost. Losing some is unavoidable. Selling it so soon is always going to be a big hit on your side. I been through this road too many times..lol

I would say 57-60k. Maybe 61 is pushing it.
