Power Trunk Retrofit - Bimmertech?
Just curious if anyone has tried the Bimmertech power trunk retrofit?
Would be nice to be able to open and close remotely but unsure about the product reliability and craftsmanship. Video |

I don't know about that particular device but I have Bimmertech Mirrroring Device and Front Cam and the quality seems top notch. Plus the seem to care about customer support and use this forum quite often. If you really wanted this I don't think you would have a problem with quality.

I just watched there vid. For me, I would want this if pressing the key fob trunk key while trunk already open would also close it. In their vid they showed it doing everything but that so I wonder if they dont have it setup that way due to safety. Curious if anyone knows.

That looks a pretty cool option albeit a bit pricey to have! I've always hated how our F8x carbon fibre composite trunk opens and closes! You have to slam the darn thing to close, just like the hood.

If you look at the video closely, it seems like the mounting points for all of the hardware are already there. While I can't confirm it from the video, it seems like all of the parts are BMW parts (wouldn't be surprised if this is an option on the 3/4 series in other markets).
Also, assuming this is in fact a true BMW retro-fit with BMW parts, you should be able to code closing the trunk with the key fob (I did this on my wife's X3). A bit pricey for me, but a nice feature nonetheless.

Thats odd - the Vert has a soft/self closing trunk lid - surely the same on the coupe/sedan, no?
Basically fairly gently push down to within an inch or two and let go and it does the final close automatically. Fully agree re the front hood but swapped that out for my Exotics Tuning vented hood which oddly closes way better than stock .

Yep. 5kg lighter than the F32 trunk lid.

Learnt something new! By the same token the Vert does not have the foot wave release/open feature, guess a trade-off between the models.

The coupe/sedan don't have the foot wave release unless the car has the Executive package.

Everyday we learn ! Out of the two features I prefer the trunk kick feature on the coupe, as it's very handy when putting grocery bags in with both hands full I know many people don't like it, but it's a useful convenience feature.

Hey forgot to mention but if your hood is particularly difficult to close it may require a very simple DIY adjustment you can do in 5 mins with no tools
Open hood and simply pull off the plastic tabs that seat around your latches (on the hood itself) - now try backing off a 180 degree turn on each and replace plastic brackets and see if closes better - may need another turn or two to get it done. Need to do no more than this as any more and fairly likely the hood will begin to sit fractionally too high at lip. Worth a shot and simple as can be to reverse. Cheers, C.

OT, sorry OP. ciaranob , thanks for the tip but the hood just requires a bit of a push as it's coming down, if not it closes uneven w one side latching and the other not! (Well known annoyance)
The tabs you mentions (officially called strikers) are used to align the front section of the hood: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ox72zti6a...onnet.pdf?dl=0 It is just the hood, that is made of aluminum is particularly light and finicky to close evenly, one nice tug coming down does the job |

Indeed - was curious if for any reason there might have been a misalignment exacerbating the closing consistency - def remember my alum hood being finicky - it is now on my garage wall !
Played around with latches and other adjustments to get my Exotics hood as perfect as I could- still likely need to adjust side fenders to get a perfect OEM gap on sides but pretty close and perfect up front. Quote:

Have you checked the latch position of the trunk hooks? If they are not in the loosest position already, then you can move them there to lower the spring tension.
