I have had two new windscreens on the F80 in the last 28 months and picked up another chip/crack today.

Do you guys know what is the exact windshield that the car comes straight from the factory with (2017 M3 competition package)? I had to have a previous windshield replaced on a 2016 M3 and pretty sure they replaced it with a windshield that wasn't the exact same one.

13k miles and I got one right in front my line of sight. Paid to get it removed and it's still there. Seriously thinking about replacing my windshield. I'm kinda worried about it because of how the factory installs them. Will it be the same as before? Will the rain sensors and camera work and the hud. Any adjustments ? Any water get inside after or problems that occurred after the replacement? Thank you guys in advance for your help.

Just joined the club, it started from a tiny rock chip about half an inch from the A pillar.
Getting quotes ranging from $950-$1350 to replace it in Ottawa.

Just got my windshield replaced about 15 minutes ago. Makes me so darn happy! Now, is there anything that can be applied to the windshield that would help cut down on pit marks and the like?
I live in Arizona and the reality is that I'll be replacing the windshield at least once a year, if not more. We use rocks for landscaping, after all. What I would like though is to at least try and reduce the sandblasted look as much as possible. Any suggestions? |

It's quite a bit more than that, like double basically, but I'm going to have it applied on Monday. I love the look of the new glass too much, and I don't want to spend another minute driving around with a chip in my windshield which I did for the last three months prior to having it replaced.

Cracked mine last month going about 70 on the highway. Teeny tiny rock hit the windshield and left a crack right in front of me. Thank god for glass coverage.

SF BMW referred me to the body shop that they use. The shop quoted me for a new front windshield for rain sensor and HUD would run about $1800. My insurance is going to charge $250 and reimburse the rest but does $1800 sound correct? If its not even the actual dealer doing it I wonder why its so high.

I received about a dime sized chip from a flying object today just above the dot matrix black section on the passenger side of the front windscreen. Can't feel anything on surface of the glass. For all of you who have used Safelite to repair chips, how does it work? They inject something into the chip? And more importantly, how does it look afterwards? I assume the optical clarity will not be as good as the original? Just don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the entire front windscreen. They quoted me about $100 bucks (my insurance deductible is $500 ) Thanks.

Chip repair is easy. Your insurance company will pay for it. Just go to a glass place and they'll handle it. Or, call a few glass places and ask for the cash price if you want to pay cash. Won't hurt your insurance though. One of the better places around here did mine for $50. Or, you can buy the kit on Amazon for $15 and DIY (Rain-X sells one). I bought one for my wife's car, but didn't get to it fast enough and now there is a huge crack. So I haven't tried it yet. Don't sweat it. With our candy glass windshield's that won't be your first.
