Thanks - and we've still got a long way to go.
One night Ralph came by to check out the harness setup before the upcoming shakedown. Repairing the front bumper using our favorite 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive A banged up right headlight needs some repairs Some laminate layer of wrap material and attaching some new tabs. I use Plumbers Tape and screw/rivet on a new place to put speed clips A new batch of calipers arrived - you'll see why in the next pic why I needed at least 1 new caliper. Got a better deal to get all 4. The Right Front caliper from the accident. Not sure if you can tell, but the nearest of the 2 attachment points is tweaked out of line with the farthest one. And look at the 2 pad retention pins.

Part of what we do to reduce the weight in a race car build is remove the sound deadening. It's kind of like tar roof shingles, so we use a heat gun to heat it up, a putty knife to scrape it off.
Here's a bag of removed sound deadening. On this car, it came out to only about 10 lbs., but we've had cars in the past that had 30-40 lbs. of it. After the sound deadening is scrape up, we clean the area with tar remover and the alcohol. Here's what the floor pan looks like with the sound deadening gone - you can see the primer color of the tub. The re-made version of our control console to clear the e-brake handle Waiting for the right front fender to come back from the paint shop. We thought we'd try on what we expect to be the race set-up. 270x18 Achilles slick on an 18x10.5" Apex Race Parts EC-7 with a 3mm spacer. So I think we finally have the car ready to load into the trailer. The car is so wide, it barely fits in the trailer. We had to remove the side mirrors to fit the car in comfortably. Dropped off at Bullet Performance and Strom Racing for alignment and checkout.

We'll take you through the whole process. If you guys have any questions about any of the things we're doing, ask away.

Great thread!
Really looking forward to seeing the progress. Let us know how much weight you removed and how the balance has changed, when you get a chance! |

We'll see if we can run it across the scales at Buttonwillow in a couple of weeks at that build state. And then put it back on the scales when it makes its race debut.

The insurance claims adjuster marked a lot of parts for replacement that are still usable to us for a race car (exhaust dented, front subframe, etc.). We can see the yellow grease pencil marks all over the car. And 3 air bags were deployed. But if you add up all the damaged parts and labor, it adds up.

Happy to have you guys on board as usual. We hope this turns out to be as great a race car as we think it can be.

About time we got that fender from the paint shop and on the car
Why aren't the drivers that keen on the new livery? Along with a fender, how about getting the headlight and front bumper back on the car Starting to look more like a car

Ralph got the racing radio antenna mounted
Car radio harness I was driving the car to the trailer and the only thing I could see out of the rear window was a wall of white reflection from the rear deck. So we needed to paint it flat black For some reason our proximity key was a real PITA, so Steve rigged up a way to keep the key right on the antenna You have put cotter pins in the harness attachments. The new Sparco ones use a 3/32" cotter pin. Craig did a nice job of cleaning the tint adhesive off the rear window. Almost like a mirror now with the flat black rear deck as you can see the palm trees.

Thanks - we pulled out some leftover vinyl I had in the garage and tried to make it so we can spot the car when it's on the other side of the race track

Thoroughly enjoyed reading what you've posted so far. Makes me want to go out there and strip a car for absolutely no reason.
Quick question: Have you guys ever tried removing the sound insulation with dry ice? I've never tried that method but I've heard it works quite well?

Racing brake pads finally came in. We're going to try Carbotech XP24's on the front and XP12's on the rear
Looking through my decal collection, I thought for the upcoming shakedown that I'd show appreciation to a lot of the past, present and future supporters

So this was the damaged corner of the car. I'll glue on the headlight washer cover and you'd hardly know it. And we got a windshield banner on - with no sun visors now, you gotta have one.

that's a pretty huge gap by the wheel well between the front bumper and the fender...
no big deal if you're racing the car, but the ocd part of me hates it.
