Has to do with supply issues of the original paint. They can't get the original so they have a new supplier and the color will be very close to the original, but not exactly the same.
Hope this doesn't mess up any SO 1 cars who need repairs with repainted parts.

Personal taste certainly varies, but it's a difficult color to capture on camera. Very similar in person to the generally admired Stratus Grey from the past. Other than a green and pure red hue (would love to see an M3/M4 in Orinocco and St. James Red), the color palette is rather diverse compared to most of the other model lines. What do you think is missing?
A blue that isn't an Easter egg color(Yas) or nearly black in the shade(Tanzanite)?

This. Or, a blue that looks normal which also doesn't cost $5,000.

SO I should still be available in smaller quantities for repairs.

Heh, my one disappointment too. Would have loved a "blue" blue at a not ridiculous price.

Devil's advocate...

If they had standard blue, red, yellow, etc... people would complain because the regular M colors were so boring.

It's hard for BMW to win.

DeBeers (the premium refinishing division of Valspar Automotive) managed the solution specifically to avoid a repeat of the issues arising from Sophisto Grey and Imperial Blue with Xrillac. Regardless, matching of color shifting paints is far more dependent on the painter's skill. More often than not, the pigment orientation cannot be perfectly matched causing the appearance to vary even if the mixture and conditions are 100% identical.

The big negative for 2017 is warranty where it drops from 4 years to 3 years and the drop in what is covered also. Best to pick up a 2016

My have times changed.....I see more comments on here about electronics, paint, Apple play bs and a bunch of other super distracting things that (let's be real here) no M owner should give a damn about IMO. Suspension/performance/aero, that's it. I don't know about most folks but I've never ever in my life purchased a performance car based on LED headlights/taillights or any "comfort" options.....I may be in the minority here but damn! Lol

Oh yeah, and how many here have ordered MGM or other shades of grey cars?
CQM is just another in a long list of boring BMW colors.
Not the first, not the last...

Every time I take my SO for service to the dealer, it is either the only, one one of 2 cars in the 20+ cars service bay that is outside of the white-grey-black color spectrum!

It's -1 year of prepaid service, not warranty.

However, what you are suggesting is would be financially unattractive: eating +1 year of depreciation out of the box vs. forgoing one year of free oil and wiper blade changes?

Doesn't make much sense!

It all depends on what you think ///M stands for!

In the US, for the last 20-odd years, it has stood for ///Marketing!

I would love to claim I'm with you, but I do love my HUD and HK sound.
I guess that makes me at least part-wuss...

Anyone that primarily cares about performance would get a Camaro SS 1LE or ZL1 over an M4 (those cars may even beat the M in luxury; see ventilated seats). M cars are for people that want a car that you can see out of and carry passengers that also performs, but they have never been dedicated performance machines (GTS excluded) .

Do you not get power locks and power windows in your car bc those would be comfort options? do you also not watch color TV or use a cell phone either for the same reason?
Your preference in cars and their features is just on opinion and does not define M owners. Obviously most people want these that's why bmw is doing it. And what's wrong with having an HUD, blue tooth connectivity etc. It's not taking away any 'performance measures.'

Why would people talk about suspension and performance in a thread about the 2017 cars when those things haven't changed for 2017 (nearly everyone optioned adaptive M suspension previously)? I'm not sure I find it strange that people are talking about the only things that changed for 2017...

I wonder if CarPlay can be retrofitted to the 15's. That would be amazing.

After looking at the pricing guide I will stick with my 2016. My 2016 will sticker $450 more than a 2017 but now I have the better maintenance program with 4/50K so the brakes are covered as opposed to the 2017. In the end all of use late 2016's reap the benefit in the end. As for the Apple Carplay or the iDrive 5 I could care less.

Some of us don't have space or finances to afford multiple cars etc. Comfort options are helpful especially in a car like the M3 that's meant to be an all arounder car rather than a weekend car. I don't think it's a negative at all tow any these options and if you don't then there's lots of cars out there for you

I'd like them to bring back LSB as a standard color.
