I completely agree. I have been going to race tracks (Road America the longest) since 1984. I never did a track session till 2015 and now the only thing preventing me from doing more days is the family. 3-4 is the max I can swing.
I have neighbors who have multiple track cars and run a ton each year and the best advice I got was: track tires, track brakes and high temp brake fluid. I felt like I could focus on driving instead of worrying about equipment. My ADO8's had great wear(no cording or over heating issues), brakes never got soft and weekends are worry free. Welcome to the addiction.

Consider doing a CCA event where you have an instructor in the car with you. Your line could be much better.
As for shifting... money shifts are bad.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
