Hard to sit behind me, car seat is on a right. With 3 kids I often have someone on a back seat. Would be super inconvenient with 2 doors. For me 4 door is a way to go.

M3 is more distinctive looking and has the iconic name. Back doors are a bonus. M3 all day, any day.
Not a huge fan of the F82 coupe; proportions not quite right as compared to the E92, but understand that people's views on this differ. |

M3 here.
The rear quarter of the M4 is just off and too soft imo. Makes it look overly elongated in comparison to the front of the car. E92 was much better composed.

M3 looks amazing. And don't forget it also has an extra seat.

For athletic build guys like me... it's much easier to get in an M4 vs. M3. Love them both, but when I test drove the M3, my butt kept getting stuck, lol...
That made the choice easy for me. M4 all day!!!

The four doors and easy access to the back seat are non issues for me. I have been driving BMW 2 door coupes and convertibles for 10 years and I doubt I have had rear seat passengers more than 12 times.
When I need to haul passengers I use the 750Lix or the Cayenne GTS.

I feel the same. I get a whiff of the 1st gen Ford Probe in the side profile of the M4, like the distance from the door shut line to the trunk is too long or too heavy, or that window just aft of the b-pillar is too big, or something. It's weird, because I usually like big coupes (real, 2-door coupes), and think that things like the current s-class coupe and 6-series two-doors are good looking.

Having just purchased an M240i, am not looking to upgrade for a few years (I am considering a M4 next time around after sitting in one while getting my car serviced), but based on the side by side (M3 vs M4), I have to agree, the M3 has a better looking profile.

All you coupe haters sound like you're just bitter you gotta drive the boring family guy variant. And given how many "family guys" actually manage to make it work just fine with the coupe, suggests it was your wife who actually made the decision because she keeps your little nuts in a locket around her neck.

People compare doors but the factor for me was seats. The M3 has one more and as our other car is a M235i this one was going to be the family hauler. I drove a E92 for 10 years so not against that form factor but the versatility of the M3 F80 as well as it's looks won me over.

Funny, I started this post in Feb of 2014 (and it is still going), but ended up not buying either for a variety of reasons- primarily because I moved and bought a dream house. However, picked up a 2018.... drumroll.. M4. So ended up going with the coupe.
