I ordered my 2018 M3 ZCP in early August. Mineral gray, manual transmission, Competition package, base cloth interior, blind spot monitoring and apple car play. I also added the Carbon fiber rear spoiler and mirror caps. I picked up my car in early October, and my car was fitted with the Icon Adaptive headlights. I did NOT order the executive package. I was however extremely happy! The car is a beast! Best car purchase I ever made!

Yeah dude. I was going through the forums while waiting for my car to be built and delivered. I read that some people were getting the Icon headlights without ordering the executive package. My dealer emailed me a vehicle inquiry report and in the build description it did state, code 552 Icon Adaptive full LED Headlight.

Mine had Icon Adaptive on the order sheet for N/C but BMW changed that and my car just has the LED. This was a November build for a MY18 f80.

I wonder what is driving the decision on BMW's part of installing Adaptives on some Non-executive cars and not on others. I guess is depending on the employee in charge of installing Adaptives LED in Germany and what mood he is in =-)

I have a feeling it's either a small bug in database software during VIR generation, or some specific combo of options.... car with certain color, certain options outside exec pakg etc may generate a VIR with 552 in it.

I doubt BMWAG runs mfg floor with the seat of the pants attitude.
Now the foreman and workers careless about any cars on the assembly line (i.e does it have exce package then no LED etc) it goes by the VIR list period.

You know, I've yet to see a non-icon LED setup here.

Unless I'm not paying attention, I still see Xenon lights. Maybe ROW cars?

This is a 2018 non-ICON adaptive headlights. Housing says “BMW LED”. They come blacked out with chrome bezels and projectors. Output is decent. Cutoff has a slight blue hue. Beam is fairly wide. It would be nice to compare to ICONs though.

Agreed with your points. Remember that BMW production is just in time sequence, as the part order is sent to the light manufacturing days in advance and delivered to the factory in sequence order for installation a few hours prior to.

Those really look awesome. Classic halos in the blacked housing.

The standard 18’ headlights look awesome. Mine has the ICONs but I’d be plenty happy with those.

It would be cool to retrofit the ICON halos into the 2018 LED projector headlight housing. ONEighty had a good concept however their ICON halos doesn’t look OEM enough once BMW implemented it. I’ll happily give up the adaptive feature to retain the projectors vs reflectors.

I just looked at new 2018 M3's on Cargurus.com and 95%, if not 100% (got tired of looking) of the non-ZEC M3s have the new Adaptive Full LEDs, go figure!

Can BMW change what they state in the VIR? I would be pissed if this happened. Did you complain to them and asked what happened?

1. Go to dealer

3. Ask him to print you out your VIR (you will likely be at status 111 - Order accepted by AG)
4. Look at your VIR for option code 552.
5. If option code there, dance. If not, and you see 5A2 go to step 6.
6. Ask CA to modify your order to add Exec Package.

That simple.

This sticky is SUPER helpful to understand status: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1181156

Note: you cannot modify order once it changes to status 150 - Production Started
Would BMW change the features in the VIR, for this or any other feature once they have provided one to the customer? I'm worried about what happened to a fellow member, who had the option but then BMW did the old switcheroo without explanation...

Not confirmed if that member actually got a VIR sheet or just regular order sheet.
It takes a few minutes after CA enter your order before VIR is generated, at least on mine the VIR correct a couple of things for my order.

I'd say if your VIR list indicate 552 you should get it. But don't quote me on it
