If $4700 is a major stretch for you then you can't afford the car.

I've met some pretty high earners who would think that buying an F8x is outrageous. I've met people who don't even make what the car is worth in a year be totally fine with it. I don't think Eric means that he's breaking the bank, but that he just had a different number in mind. I could be wrong, but that's just the way I see it.

OP already compared standard vs comp and said he noticed little difference nor plans to track the car. If the OP plans to change the wheels, add a tune, exhaust, modify the car further etc....honestly....what is he really gaining with the comp package? Sure, there's some other nice upgrades as well but is that really worth the $4700 price tag considering? For some it isn't. Really has nothing to do whether they can afford it or not. |

That and the slightly wider tires. I have no traction problems that others complain about. No traction interference or power cutting either.

You are spot on. My wife loves the M3 and sports cars in general. However, when we came into buying her M3, Comp pack was not on the top of her list, whatsoever. It is not that we cannot afford the comp pack (we were also looking at a Carrera S for her but she really wanted four doors), it is that when she settled on the car she wanted, when she learned of the price of the comp pack, she did not want to "stretch" to get something I would enjoy driving the car every once and a while (like the sport exhaust on the carrera or the sport chrono package). We absolutely could afford it, but just not worth it to her. Now if the car was for me, my conception would have included the comp package from the beginning. At the end of the day I think it is a mix of personal preference and what you started out budgeting at. I doubt the repulsion is a "can't afford" problem but more of a "don't want to stomach the added cost when I already settled on a certain amount in my head" problem

Wow. This is gonna pop up until the F8x generation is done.
I'll quote myself "It's the SAME car! Camp #1: ZCP transforms the car, it's a NEW car, OMG I traded my 15' non ZCP and lost thousands of dollars because I had to have the latest and greatest, love the Satan wheels, love the burbles, the ride on 20s is fine. Best $5000 I've spent in my entire life. Camp #2: I can't tell a shit of a difference in ride/handling quality, HATE the wheels (even in person), HATE the seats without lumbar support, seat belts belong on a lime green Mitsu Evo. Waste of $5000. EVERYONE justifies. It's a personal preference OP Close thread" |

I'm not an accountant for anyone, but we all have our vices. Everyone has a different perception of cost justification in their own view of the world. I like to spend money on cars, but I do know folks who spend $1000 a month on wine.

So for me I just ignore the analysis paralysis and say, "CP. Do I want it? Yes. Yes I do. It's called 'the competition package' so of course I want it." so I'm getting it. Sure, my wife punched me in the junk (and not in good way where I get to wear leather and have a safe word), but she's also getting a Europe trip out of it so, WIN WIN! |

To make it even clearer... if you plan to go custom wheels/exhaust and tune, why waste your money on the ZCP. A nice setup with those three combined will run around 10K - so if you're okay with dropping that kind of coin, then do you.

Personally, I'm not gonna go with CP, caz gotta modify the car anyways. Anybody was stating their own opinion, why you guys try to argue with each, there is no point for that lel.

This is something I thought long and hard about. I actually like the 19's better but still got the ZPC and 20's.
I think the best thing about ZCP is that it makes the M3 more of what it already is. It's not practical (unless you track it), but it looks cool. (Even if you track it, is it really better?) FWIW, I find the seats a bit uncomfortable. And, you must get Exec Package because you cannot turn around to look in the ZCP seats. At least you can get some money back when you sell the car, unlike most options. Also, 20's look more serious and aggressive, IMHO. 19's look more refined and stylish. I didn't particularly like ZCP on my '17, but I feel like it is a necessity, so I will get it on my '18. Ultimately you'll have to read all the threads about it and decide for yourself. |

Regarding tuning, I remember CaryTheLabelGuy stating that the CP factory tune offers a better foundation for piggy back tunes. So even if one wants to add a JB4, the CP might be well worth it.
