F80 M3 test mule running around in Marin County, CA

Followed it briefly before it went onto the golden gate bridge, Estoril Blue II F80 with the swirly camo pattern on the front and rear bumpers. Might be in Sausalito? Last time I spied two E46 M3 mules before the were released, they were eating dinner downtown...

Good luck and post pics if you find them!

Was likely Monte Carlo, not Estoril II. But that's cool hopefully pics of the car show up soon. Haven't seen any blue mules yet.

Sorry, I tried to get a pic but it got on the freeway north before I could get one.

And, no it didn't seem like all the Monte Carlo blue X5M's I've seen, it was lighter and poppier more like my old Z3M Coupe. Front lower fascia was disguised and it was running a rear disguised bumper with dual exhausts, but single pipes like a 335i.

Does anyone know what a tri turbo car sounds like? Can you tell an N54 from an N55 by sound?

It passed me going up the hill coming from Baker's beach and I didn't notice any particular whine like the spy videos I've seen, but all my windows were closed.

Just my luck... last time this happened to me I was last fall on my way to a baby-fair in Fort Mason and passed a caravan of 991 turbo test mules and the boxter prototype getting onto Doyle drive going north.

That means it should be popping up around west LA soon enough. We've spotted a number of previous-gen M-cars testing in these parts before their respective debuts in years past.

I guess it was most possible an F30 M-Sport in estoril blue with "light cammo" ... because no F80M3 was spied in other colors than black til now and on the other hand all F30 M-Sport cars were in estoril blue ... and why an mule in such an different and more showing color should be spied in the USA first and not esp. on the NOS ???

SO:

M Cars have quad exhausts.

M Performance? M335i etc?

Or more than likely just plain old 335i M Sport as Uli_HH says.

Good thinking Uli. I'll bet you are correct. That explains the dual single-exit exhaust also.
