e46 to e92 was a big jump

For some reason I just dont think the new m4 is as big of a engineering jump from e92. Not like the big jump between e46 and e92.

Dude, you're already bashing on the new M3/M4, and asking if anyone will get one.
But we are still months away from even just a preview of what the new model will be like, stylish-wise and spec-wise.

Come back in a year and ask your question again.

Im not bashing. Just noticed there wasnt a huge jump in specs so far. Take it easy bud. Alot of new cars take some time to warm up to. Thats all.

Dude, 300 pounds less vs e90 it's an amazing spec. Add 100 torque on the top of that. I would say it is a good upgrade.

Im just asking peoples opinion and gave my own personal opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they can all be shitty from time to time. Dont get all bent people.

Too bad I can't unread this classy contribution. If that's what you think of your opinion, why do you bother foisting it on us followed by this disgusting turd of wisdom?

It will be as big a jump or more. Bmw for some bizarre reason started to underrate their turbo engines and continue to do so when they never ever underated their non-turbo engines and probably overrated slightly.

So 415hp for the new m3 is likely more like 450. 300 pounds lighter is another 35 equivelent hp to the current e9x m3. So you are looking at a big performance jump of about 70 hp which is essentially the same jump as e4 to e9

And keep in mind that with the turbo engine, a tune alone can add another 30-40 HP and similar torque. Add an exhaust and you can pretty easily get to ~500 HP. Try doing that with the V8..
I think the next M will be a game changer.

I hope so too. But I can't say the M5 was a game-changer.

The F10 was compromised before the M arrived due to the mini 7 architecture which also brought with it hundreds of pounds of weight gain.

The f30 brings no weight gain compared to its predecessor and all reports so far of the M3 suggest further weight savings.

I do not think we will see a repeat of the M5 being a bit of a disappointment.

It's funny, everyone will complain until the first person that mods it to 500 Crank HP for < $500.

Lets just hope the power is much linear than a turbo car and that throttle response is excellent. It will be a great car regardless!

Besides a V8 what made the E92 such as special M3? Everything the e46 M3 defined had carried over, EDC/E-Diff and Enhanced Sound were the only really big ones that stood out to me (e46 M3 didn't get electronic suspension and kept the same sound system as the regular e46 cars)

I will argue the difference from E36 to E46 was MUCH more substantial and paved the road for all future M3's, especially US model.

+ Got the proper high output motor
+ Quad exhaust was introduced
+ M3 side gills were introduced
+ M3 power dome hood was introduced
+ M3 Steering Wheel introduced

Agreed, the only thing I care for in the e9x is the v8.

Talking E36-E46 M3, I'd say the widened track, which also required unique sheet metal, was a little more significant in shaping the future of the M3 than the steering wheel or side gills.
