It should have been a solid fit, with zero movement. When you look at the damage to Sameets failed TPG hub, they were banging together until it rounded the pin off and finally jumped it, and or cracked the sprocket. I don't believe there should be any movement of the sprocket on the locating pin at all. A one piece will achieve this if nothing else. Then a stronger bolt, with slightly more torque, and some lock tight. If BMW solution to it is just use the same parts and tighten slightly, then one piece, new bolt and lock tight should work a treat. The friction surface of the sprocket is akin to holding something with two fingers. Whereas the friction surface of the hub, holding on the crank, is more like holding with your entire hand. So a little more torque for good measure, and lock tight to try and keep it that way, should hold. One piece illiminates the weak spot. The next weak spot in the chain is considerably stronger, and is upto the task. Just my opinion having studied the parts in my hands.

Yes, I understand that, and I understand why. However it might be nice if they shared their results.

As stated once we have a viable option we will then upgrade our CURRENT customers. Everyone wanted more engineering, more testing , more data, This is what we are working on. Things like this take extensive amount of time and money. Trying to find ways to properly test the strength and reliability of something like this to appease certain standards will take quite some time.
If you feel there is an issue with the hub in your car, or that you have purchased and not yet installed we will gladly refund your money as stated multiple times. This is a poll thread regarding a one piece Gintani hub. I will not be posting pictures in here, I will however start a new thread to show some of our progress. Also as stated before we will NOT be offering this piece for sale, only as an update to the current customers we have. |

Hey Everyone,
Not much info to give out at the moment. We currently do not have a car to test this on at our facility, as our m4 was totaled in an accident. However we have 3 cars currently test the Bolt at this time. Once we have more information we will let everyone know. |

Crank Hub
New one from them appears to key the crank. It's not a cheap solution, but almost certainly should stop them from spinning. It looks quality, but install is $$$

From speaking to Steve Dinan, TPG, Maximum PSI and a few other engine performance building shops; all have stated that keying the crankhub is the only solution.
What I found to be more educated was speaking to Steve Dinan and he was the only one that mentioned BMW only has half of a normal crankshaft bearing and during this installation at his facility then machine the block to accommodate a full circle thrust bearing for an additional cost. Here is his website listing on the S55 https://carbahnautoworks.com/product/s55-3-0l-rebuild/ Last edited by schnell1982; 12-12-2017 at 09:32 PM.. |
