Interesting. I just bought my M3 Friday. Had a couple Thumbs up, but that was from a GTR and a Honda Guy...

My other M's are Race Cars, so this is my first M Street car.

I have a GT3RS and the Porsche community waves at all 911's & GT Series cars. Ignored (only because of the typical driver not acknowledging a wave) are the Boxsters, SUV's and 4Door P-Cars.

I just bought my Wife a Wrangler a couple months ago, and suddenly realized that was a whole cult too with the waving.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for other M Cars and give the wave a try...

No waves yet, but they do give way when no one else does

Made my day!

I always give a wave, seems pretty common here in germany. At least I've never seen somebody declining to response.

Always waved to my fellow Porsche crew. BMW M crowd is new to me, so not sure.

Smile Wave with the Intention of No Return

Coming at you from a motorcyclist perspective, there is an abundance of acknowledgements on the road from other motorcyclists. Sometimes I would see a low handed wave, or a simple wave. Sometimes I would see it in time to respond. If I was keyed into potential interactions in front of me, due to heavy traffic, braking, turning through a curve, etc. I typically would not respond and the passerby sometimes would get irate enough to throw a bird. I didn't care.

Most of the time I hold out my hand low to another rider to simply acknowledge the inherent risk we take in riding. Most of the time it is returned in kind. Sometimes I would acknowledge another rider on the road and get a "I ain't your F***ing friend, piss off!!", which is a pretty fair statement.

I rarely see another ///M in the area I live in, so the opportunities are rare. I had thought, until reading this post, that in an effort to keep up a C*** Head like persona of ///M owners, one is not supposed to wave to another like minded owner, but to simply stare in such a manner as to know I am better than you.

Being my external self, my plan is to simply hold my fingers up, with the thumb hooked, from the steering wheel should I see another ///M out in the wilderness with the expectation of no return wave. Should I get acknowledged I will be pleasantly surprised and go about ///My day.

I've had quite a few flashing light exchanges in the M4

Never seen anyone wave yet tho. Always a quick high beam flashing.

Here in cali motorcyclists can lane-split - they usually give the nod to each other and also if you're an aware driver and move over for them (as I do).

I used to move left over the yellow line, which always got the low-wave of thanks, but I stopped doing that after I picked up a nail in outside wall of my tire.

I don't flash or wave in my hood. It might be a sign of disrespect and get you shot.

I rarely see other M's around me. I've noticed that in general, people driving x28's are less likely to have a clue about other cars around them whereas people driving x35's (now x40's) are often much more attentive to what other exciting cars might be around and are more apt to respond to a nod or a wave. Based on my own opinion and observations, the x28 people look like people that just went and bought a BMW without really caring about model and just treat it as no big deal, just another car. This is obviously not all of them, but it's the impression I get from looking at most of them as I pass. As a general rule, the more expensive the car, the more likely the driver is checking out other cool cars on the road.

I do that, but put my carbon fibre M key ring on the middle finger for extra impact.

Unfortunately not everyone that has a M car is a enthusiast. Most are pencil necks that think having a M car is a status thing.

Only M enthusiasts i've met have been in car shops lool

On the road, most won't even bat an eye. I'd wave and usually get stares. Maybe they can't see me through tints and think i'm flipping them off haha.

It's a M car... Go to Los Angeles - they are a dime a dozen... 3 series are the equivalent to civics and accords...

Two wheels is different - yes fellow Crotch rockets will acknowledge one another and cruisers will acknowledge one another... You drive a M3 not a Pagani - it ain't that special...

I acknowledge/wave to other BMW drivers with tasteful mods (M or non M). Yes an M isn't all that special BUT someone who has put in a lot of time into their car and made it tastefully unique IS special. For these fellow enthusiasts I'll show some love!

Guys. Just drive your car. Are you all really worried about hand gestures?

This! But... I saw a thumbs up yesterday from a fellow in another white M3 on the drive home and not gonna lie, it felt pretty cool! I returned the gesture obviously.

people talk about the most asinine sh*t on here, waving to other M cars might be one of the more interesting topics!

I get way more thumbs ups and waving in my 18 years old Miata than in my M4.

But if I am in the M4 and other M car drivers who seems to enjoy cars, I am happy to give them a good open valve rev or waving.
