I learned that this thread should have a first post that accumulates all the nuggets of info so you don't have to read 2500 posts and see them repeated over and over

Also, BMW Genius doesn't seem to know production status codes.

I believe this is correct....I think you can get some CF accessories in 1x1 weave from some suppliers though.

That M cars do not hold their value. Totally shocked... my dealer said that Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys hold better value nowadays. The reason is that BMW, Mercedes and Audi in order to outsell each other offering all sorts of incentives/discounts to sell cars have led to cars being devalued. My M4 which had an MSRP of $78K when I got it in 2015 is now valued at around $40-45K.

You should be able to get 50k which is 35% depreciation over 3 yrs which is pretty normal if your car is in excellent condition and less than 30k miles.

What were u expecting? Your car is 3 yrs old and now there is CP cars which will reduce the value for standard M3's

Buy a house, don't buy a car. The value of the car drops at the minute you sign the paperwork. Of course, if you keep it for 10 - 15 years, your lost will not be as big as you sell in 3 - 5 years.

That depreciation really isn't that bad. Also, M3/4s are pretty over priced new imo which is why you see a drop like that. I'm sorry I just don't see $80k of value in this car.

You should do autopay through your bank so you won't have to keep rediscovering that.

Actually that is exactly what I do.

Lease ends at end of May and I am negotiating to lease another one.

^ You could wrap a rubber band around the two knobs so they rotate together.

this may be a little off base. but how can you see a DCT rev matches. Dont all automatic transmissions rev match. If there is no clutch then obviously you just picking the gear and the car does the rest. for example doesn't an e90 325i rev match when I downshift a gear using tiptronic?

All ATs do not rev match and the lack or a clutch has nothing to do with it. The DCT does have a clutch (actually two of them). The ZF 8 Speed locks out the torque converter at about 4MPH as did the older ZF 6 Speed that was used in some of the E9x. non M cars. In both transmissions the engine is directly connected to the drive wheels and when the car downshifts it will slow down rather violently (the same as an MT will) if the engine isn't "blipped" (rev matched) before the lower gear is engaged. With both the DCT and the 8AT since both the engine and the transmission are controlled by computers the rev matches are perfect. This is also the case with the MT when it auto rev matches. In the case of the MT if auto rev match is off (it can not be shut off on the 8AT or DCT) and the driver blips the throttle the size of the blip is at best a very good guess but a skilled driver will consistently get near perfect results and the shifts will be very smooth and will not unsettle the car,

This is inaccurate. There are mostly no "rev-matched downshifts" in S1 and D1 drivelogic modes on the F8X M-DCT. The downshifts are smoother than in the other modes, albeit quite a bit slower. In these modes, the engine is not blipped to increase the revs, the engine revs are simply increased by progressively slipping the clutch being engaged.

Planetary transmission also have multiple clutch packs to lock the various planetary components to achieve the desired gear ratios. So it is also possible to downshift without having to rev match through engine blipping even if the torque converter is locked up. Again here, the engine revs are increased by progressively slipping the clutch pack being engaged. That is actually what happens most of the time during regular driving since it is more fuel efficient and smoother that way.

To be able to execute a rev-matched downshift through engine blipping, the engine actually needs to be momentarily disconnected from the drivewheels. There is physically no way around this. Think of it, if the engine were blipped while it is connected to the drive wheels, it would create an acceleration surge. On a DCT, both clutches are dissengaged when the engine is blipped. On a planetary auto there also needs to be a brief moment for which the engine is disconnected from the drive wheels while the engine is blipped. The benefit of this is a much quicker downshift without jerking the chassis. But it is not as smooth as a slow non-rev-matched downshift.

The video below is a good depiction of how a planetary auto works. It also depicts quite well how much more rotating mass planetary AT have compared to MT or DCT (re our other discussions).
